Too expensive for the cheap construction

Basically the main reason I moved to Sterling was because the apartments were new. Throughout the course of the year we had a lot of problems. During the winter my room didn't get any heat. I had maintenance come several different times to work on it. They tried to fix it but when they couldn't they tried to tell me it was just because my room was "farthest away from the furnace" although my bathroom got a ton of heat... and then they said the only way to fix it would be to tear out the ceiling and redo it, so they gave me a space heater which made our electric bill sky rocket. The windows leak in cold air in the winter too.
We had problems with plumbing at one point. My bathroom flooded into a lake because somehow the sewage got backed up and overflowed when I flushed the toilet. My bathtub even started filling up with really disgusting "water'"
As long as you keep your apartment clean and maintain it (vacuuming, etc.) they look nice, but they are cheaply built. The walls are very thin and you can hear other people's conversations through your wall. I lived on the first floor and was constantly dealing with the upstairs music, stomping or jumping, creaking/squeaking floors, etc. The bass in music carries very well through these buildings so it is very noisy. I was right by the volleyball court so it was always noisy during the day, which normally didn't bother me (even when the windows are closed) and the lights from other buildings AND the lighted courts shined into my windows at night.
The furniture is VERY cheaply made. Our kitchen table just sits there and screws randomly just fall out of it. It's not like we have people dancing on it lol. The couch and chair aren't comfortable but they are usable. The mini-blinds on our door were very cheap and easily bent, but they were replaced.
The internet here sucks a lot of times though. It has been down a lot lately and it's hard when you have hw to do through webCT...
The staff in the clubhouse was always nice, but it is easy to tell that this place is NOT a good investment, seeing as the place has been sold 3 or 4 different times (that's why the name keeps changing)...
They look nice from the outside even though whenever it rains the sidewalks are flooded with water and the lawn absorbs water. The water can also cause problems in the winter because some of the parking lots aren't level. I had to have my car towed out of an iced over spot because water ran to the lowest spot of the parking lot and froze over causing my front tires to be stuck in an ice rut...
If you don't mind a lot of noise, bright lights through your window at night and the cheap, shotty construction of these places then go for it! The apartments (inside) are set up so everything is very open which was nice. But you are taking a chance!
