Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008

My boyfriend and I have lived at Dover Hills for nearly 2 years; we were very impressed with the grounds and the friendly staff when we signed in late 2006. Even though there were quite a few hiccups when it came time to move in. We originally signed for a one bed/one bath apartment, but when we were given the keys we were very disappointed with the mess left there. The carpet was a mess; they ended up having to replace it shortly after we signed, and the blinds were falling off their tracking. When we brought this to the attention of the staff and voiced our desire to opt out of living there (we were a week into our lease at that point; we hadn't moved into the unit yet), we were told that we would still be subject to the same terms of breaking the lease as everyone else. We instead took a two bed/two bath apartment that was much nicer (but we were charged extra move-in fees, that no one could explain where they were coming from); all in all, we love our apartment now.
However, recently our new "neighbors" have gotten a lot younger and a lot less considerate. I realize that this is a "college town" and being a recent graduate should understand, but it's a bit ridiculous to turn a deaf ear to someone running up and down the hallway at 3:00 AM, pounding on each door, and screaming at the top of their lungs; and waking up to bloody hand-prints on your door the next morning. Obviously I reported the incident to the office that morning; they promised to have the blood cleaned up that day; it took them nearly a week. And that was w/my constant phone calls.
The most recent incident occurred this weekend, when my car was broken into while it was parked underneath its carport. I walked to the office building shortly after they opened (or were supposed to be open), waited outside for a short time, called and left a message asking them to please call me immediately; I did not hear back from them until I went in today to question them about it. Their lack of response and empathy to the situation is very frustrating.
Needless to say, we will not be opting to stay for another year. We hope to find some place safer, quieter, and worth the amount of money we've spent at Dover Hills. The apartments themselves are gorgeous and I'll miss ours very much; it's spacious, perfectly laid out, and everything I want in an apartment - however, the safety issue is far more important to us than anything else.

Wow, thanks for the comment, guy. The person was fine, he was drunk and I don't really have a lot of pity for people who cause their own *minor* injuries. I'm not going to put myself at risk for some drunken idiot when he's making a scene and banging on doors. When we left for work the next morning, the blood on the door appeared to be from a small cut on his hand. So no, it wasn't really necessary to call an ambulance for that. I'm not anyone's keeper and I do not pay rent to have to put up with this type of behavior. No one called an ambulance, which would lead me to believe that the person was just fine, just intoxicated and obnoxious. No type of emergency vehicle was called to our apartment complex, even though I considered calling the police. Yes, he was probably freaking out about his cut, but here's the thing - don't go running through hallways at 3:00 AM and causing a scene. It's not necessary, and neither is your comment. So thank you.

Lack of security is definitely a drawback. I'm glad I read your review; think I'll look elsewhere, even though I liked the apartment I saw. Thanks for being honest.
