I have lived at Lake Forest for almost a year and have to say that I've really enjoyed it. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept. My apartment is large and spacious, sunny and bright. Central air and heat is a big plus considering most places I looked at in Kalamazoo only had window units. Love having a washer and dryer (though they are of the stackable variety). I feel very safe most of the time. I don't hear much noise from my neighbors, and the neighbors that I have are very nice. There is quite a bit of parking, though sometimes at night it can be difficult to find a space near your apartment. Plenty of guest parking. I've never had any problems with the office staff; they've always answered my questions and concerns promptly. I'm not renewing my lease because I'm moving out of the state, but if I could, my rent would stay the same.
A few problems I've had while living here:
1) I painted my fireplace wall a dark red. I was left a notice that chimneys would be inspected, and didn't think too much of it. I came home one day and there was a giant hole in my red wall from the inspection (the drywall had been put back up, but you could see where it was cut out). Maintenance came in a couple of days later and plastered it, then painted over the new plaster in WHITE. I was never told that the chimney inspections would involve actually CUTTING into any wall; had I been, I would have expressed concern about my paint.
2) When the snow and ice began to melt, water got into my coat closet and ruined the ceiling of the closet and tops of the walls, and soaked through a good 4' x 2' section of the carpet in front of it. It took maintenance two weeks to fix the closet, and they did not replace the carpet.
3) Tennis courts and volleyball court need repair. Tennis courts need to be cleaned and resurfaced. Volleyball court is overgrown and doesn't even have a net.
Overall, the problems that I've had here pale in comparison to how much I love my apartment and the complex in general. I wish I could pack up my apartment and take it with me when I leave. :)

Lake Forest is not really to bad, although the parking in most areas is horrible, of course in the middle of the day theres plenty of spots DUH. The apartment complexes are off in the woods off of westmain making it an ideal spot for burglars and crooks i know from first hand experience.

Just a comment on the fireplace thing, we have our wall painted a dark color as well, and did express a concern regarding the repair and our paint color and there was no resolution to it. They told us they would be unwilling to repaint it our color even if we supplied the paint...so...you'd have been in the same spot had you known.
