AN HONEST REVIEW!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 2/13/2009
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I am not sure how much "The Pointe at Western" has changed since I have lived there but here is my review after living there for the 2006 - 2007 year:
**PROS:
- The grounds are attractive, and kept reasonably clean for the amount of garbage that people throw around during weekend partying.
-Online rent payment
-Unless a guest visiting you parks in a covered parking space, they will not be towed.
-No security deposit
-Staff is very helpful in giving you information and contact numbers if yo uare looking for a room mate.
-Snow is plowed in a timely manor.
-No security deposit
-Clean, inviting pool/spa area
-Hot water never runs out
-If you are locked out of your apartment, the staff is willing to help you
-Private bathrooms
-Promotional food during finals week and such (not exactly free...$75 for yearly activities and clubhouse maitnance)
-On the WMU Bus Route (convenient for getting to the football games if you are drunk)
-If furniture breaks, they will replace it (with reasonable cause)
-Slow internet and static picture on cable
-I was not charged a dime when I moved out
**CONS
-Staff is horribly rude when dealing with serious issues.
-If your rent is late they punish you by taking away the internet
-The gym in the club house is run-down (missing freeweights and broken machines)
-The tanning beds are not taken care of
-My apartment was not clean when I moved in
-My apartment had very worn out furniture when I moved in
-My apartment had a ton of stains when I moved in and looked quite different from the model (For example our apartment had some berooms with dark brown carpeting with orange stains instead of the light cream colored in the model, the furniture was worn out and broken and so were the blinds, appliances were also worn out and heavily used, floors were scratched all over, bathroom fixtures were perm. stained, walls were not retouched up after last people moved in, lighting fixtures are not what are in the model and neither are the type of blinds, carpet, furniture etc..) However maitenance replaced a lot of the damaged furniture and touched up a lot of the walls and stains when we complained.
-My apartment flooded (a plus side of this was taht they cleaned our water damaged area rugs for us though)
-Maitenance is slow
-The crowd of students taht live in this complex are slightly trashy for some reason.
-Very loud on weeknights
-Easy to break into
-Security does not do their job
-Police watch for speeders
-People from the trailer park next door INVADE the pool in the middle of the night when residents are trying to take late night swims (even though the residents shouldnt be eitehr it is kind of an invasion of privacy to some)
-They have a bogus late policy for rent (it has to be paid by 3:00 within a week of the due date.(bogus part is the weird exact time policy)
-You have to take a taxi cab to get to any parties near campus (if you party a lot near campus do not live here you will get annoyed with all the money you waste win cab fairs)
-Vandalism of cars is frequent (grounds are not well lit)
SUMMARY: The Pointe at Western has many of the problems that any "college apartment" complex has. If you are going to live in a college apartment complex you might as well live somewhere that looks nicer, and has nicer amenities, because reguardless of if you live at campus court (currently living there), copper beech (lived there), u club, frat village townhomes, hunters ridge, etc.. you will get terrible management. College complexes like to screw over students and their parents in every financial way possible. The only thing that is super nice about The Pointe at Western as far as features go is the impressive entry drive, the pool/spa, and the covered parking and storage units available. The staff is rude when it comes to rent issues and resident complaints, and the model is deceiving. And as far as the insides of the apartments go, for being furnished, they are the least impressive out of all four furnished complexes (college park, campus court, the pointe, copper beech) near campus. My living experience here was not unbearable, but it was slightly inconvenient, and I would only recommend living there if you are looking to spend the least amount of money for a furnished apartment. However if you don't mind the distance from campus, Copper Beech is right next door and although they to had their problems and conveniences, I would live there again before living at The Pointe.
