I am a WMU student who has lived at Western Pines for 2 years. I will be leaving at the end of my lease, just because I am graduating. I have found Western Pines to be a good place to live. The staff is very friendly, and really cares about the people who live here. The maintenance staff is excellent, and we?ve never had a problem that they couldn?t fix (we never had to wait more than a day for service). I read another review of Western Pines on your site, and felt I had to reply, because it was not a fair review. Our apartment was very clean and freshly painted when we moved in, and we had new carpet. After we moved in, the maintenance staff gave us new flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms. They did the job quickly, and cleaned up afterwards! Our appliances were new, and we never had any major problems. Yes, they do not have a visitor?s lot, but you can go into the office at any time and get a visitor?s pass. The office people will give you one for the whole week, and if you have a visitor, you just put it on the dash of their car, and they can park in the lot right along side of you. They do not limit passes, they do not cost anything, and you can get them anytime the office is open! So, we never had any problems with our guests parking at Western Pines. Yes, Western Pines was built in 1980, and it was originally built for low-income families. Now, they do not accept subsidies. However, because they were originally built for families, the living room and the bedrooms are very big and roomy. Closet space is great! The maintenance staff keeps up the apartments very well. The hallways are clean, and someone on the staff is always picking up trash outside, so the place looks neat and clean. They also give you high-speed internet and free cable (44 channels). Not very many apartment complexes give you internet and cable for free! Our water was fine...we did not have yellow water at all! I think Western Pines is a nice place to live. It?s not fancy -- they don?t have a pool or a gym, but it is affordable, safe, close to campus, and decent.
