Pros outweigh Cons IMO

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved in in October 2007.
PROS: Large size for $$ 2BR 1000 sqft $665 including water/trash & a small(4x6') storage cubby in basement. The kitchen is very large with room for a small table & chairs/freezer or bakers rack and there is LOTS of storage throughout the apartment not just in the kitchen. The location is convenient to most anything except the Metro but that's not too far away if you need it. There is not too much of a student population here either which is a huge plus for me. For the most part I like living here, the staff is friendly if everchanging(or so it seems)and many perks are offered like pet care if you're away & package pickup. Snow removal is really good here & they have their own little backhoe type thing & snowblowers & sidewalk plow in addition to the plow trucks for the lots themselves. The complex will paint two walls in the apartment for you & no charge to paint it back when you leave.
CONS: The apartments aren't very old (30years')but I think most of the appliances are original, at least in my apartment. Shelving in closets is the old metal kind & mine has several rust spots which I covered with liner so it wouldn't transfer to clothes/towels. When I moved in, I had to clean the entire kitchen(no I'm not a clean freak)it was like the last people didn't bother. There was/is some kind of pink goo(yes goo)in one of the cupboards & the doors looked & felt like they'd not been cleaned, the dishwasher had leftover food particles in it & there are scorch marks along the edges of the oven door and the cabinet doors are marked up, bubbling & generally icky which cleaning won't fix. They do say I can paint them if I want to but I'm not sure I it would stick. The carpet was/is in good shape except for a stain in the hall which I still cant get up. The counters were scratched & stained & nasty but they did some process to resurface those after I showed them.
I love the secluded but close to most everything setting. IMO while improvements are needed, it's a pretty good deal, not luxury as the signs say but pretty good. I'll resign if I stay in Kalamazoo.
