Upon first look, Hidden Lakes is a community that appear perfect on the surface, but scratching that surface reveals an ugly hidden underworld of mismanagement and disrepect of the tenants.
When we first moved in we were basically shocked at the size of the apartments. We couldn't believe we could get such a huge 2-bedroom apartment for so little money. We had 2-cats which were also quite welcome. The upstairs neighbors were okay, the neighbors across the hall were okay, the downstairs neighbors were friendly.
Management seemed fairly responsive most of the time, until a new neighbor moved in upstairs. These people had apparently never hear of the concept of walking softly. Every step they took involved booming steps that easily came through my ceiling. I could accurately tell where they were in their apartment at any given time. Repeated calls to the office finally resulted in the manager at the time going upstairs to try and talk to the residents. It was quiet for a day then it started again.
This went on for three months. I would call they office they would make vague assurances, and occasionally leave a note on the apartment door upstairs. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore. I went upstairs myself only to discover the people spoke no english at all. I'd like to know how the management communicated with them at all.
I called the office and wanted to be let out of my lease. Well, then I got the run around for a week. Then I called the property management company and got ahold of someone in Lansing. Well, unless I had every call to the manager documented as well as every occurance of a thumping foot from upstairs, they were not going to let me out of my lease... which ended in less than three months.
The manager showed up a few days later and graciously offered to let us move into a vacant 3rd floor apartment for the remainer of our lease. So we could plan on packing everything up, move upstairs, unpack, just in time to move out in ten weeks time.
When I told him that was unacceptable they left us no choice but to leave anyway. So we packed up, put notice in the office with our keys, and final rent payment.
6 years later, in trying to rent an apartment in California, I discovered I had been reported as evicted by Hidden lakes. Then turned over for collection of $1400 in back rent.
These people didn't work with anyone back then, and I find it hard to believe that they would work with anyone now, based on the horror stories printed here, and from two people I know who live there now.
This place is crap from the get go. Don't get caught up in the beautifully landscaped property, or the pretty office and community room with the pool and sauna that only seem to work two out of every seven days.
