Nice, but not worth it

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
My husband and I lived there from July 2008 to June 2009. We chose this apartment because it was very nice and close to his work. After a few months into the lease, we had wished we kept looking for another apartment. Something cheaper and worth what you pay for. When we started looking for an apartment, River Oaks was our first visit. Right away, we were suckered into paying a $99 application fee because if you don t complete an application on the first visit, it costs more or you end up paying additional fees, or something... This was totally bazaar. When we left that day, we were just completely confused on why we paid the $99 and did the application. We wanted a 3 bedroom apartment, but the 3 bdrm floor plan is extremely silly and really should not be considered a 3 bedroom. We settled for the 2 bdrm, 2 bath. The staff is ok. They are very nice and on top of things. When I had to call maintenance for anything, they were always there either the same day or the next day. However, there were a few occasions when we went into the office and there would be only one person and we would get totally ignored because they were too into getting the new tennants. The apartment itself was decent with lots of room. The walk in closet in the master bedroom was wonderful! A litte more cabinet space would be nice in the kitchen. There is no storage space at all in either of the bathrooms other than the cabinets below the sink! I do not know how you are about things, but I am not comfortable storing my towels and cleaning products in the same open cabinet... We stored our towels on a shelf in our bedroom. They consider themselves a gated community which means you need card access to get into the apartment complex. The gates take forever to open and additional cars would sneak in behind you. So someone who does not have a card can easily come in behind you. On several occasions, I would see people back up out of the visitor entrance and pull into the complex behind someone using the resident entrance. Also, the gates were open all winter long not to mention majority of the time after the snow melted, they would forget to close them or something would be wrong with them, so they got left open 90% of the time. Technically, the complex only has a gate for the entance, anyone could get in around the complex no problem as there is no fence or gate around the complex. Snow removal in the winter was ok. It usally did not get done until after 8am, so when you would leave for work in the morning, sidewalks and driveways would be covered with snow. Also, they would pile up the snow at the ends of the non-covered parking spots. This takes up very much needed parking space. Since they charge for covered parking, during the winter there were rarely places near our entryway to park because people from down the way would park by our entrance. Even now that the snow is gone,it is hard to find some parking spots unless you get home early; also if you would leave and come back, it was guaranteed your parking spot would gone. The complex is in a very nice neighborhood. East Paris nature park is a walk away. The only noise really comes from the airplanes flying directly overhead, but you get use to that. Overall, it is a nice complex to live in, but expensive. If you have the extra money to pay for it and it is convenient, then yes, its a nice place to live. Additional Notes: After we moved out, we received a letter stating that we owed for July rent... our lease expired on June 30th. Additionally, we turned in our keys on June 28th! According to our rental agreement, they require a 60 DAY NOTICE for MOVE OUT!!! 60 DAYS!!!!! My letter was maybe 4 days late... They are charging us for 6 days of pro-rated rent for the month of July because our notice was 4 days late!!! They really are more about money than their people. x-2PE3sjUIIeetAHoKOk
