Stay away from Canal 2

The other writers have summed it up pretty good, but I feel my story is worth sharing.

We moved in last August despite the bad vibe we got from the wierdo who showed the apartment and the other resident who was in the office paying her rent and warned us to go somewhere else. Within hours of moving in, it was quite apparent that we had made a terrible mistake. We lived on the second floor and heard every little thing that went on above us (including bathroom "visits" echoing through the vents) not to mention the fact that they loved to crank up their stereo and shake our whole apartment. I complained 4 times to the management about the noise (so loud that we could identify the song and artist) and nothing was done. The straw that broke the camel's back was in mid-October when we complained for the 5th time and the people above us began stomping and beating on the floor out of anger. The next day I told Canal 2 that we were out of there and only after threatening to sue (constructive eviction and breach of contract- yes, they work like a charm) were we allowed out of the lease.

Everything the others have said is absolutely correct- I was told several times that there would be high-speed internet in about a month and it never happened. The walls in our apartment were two different colors from where they tried to touch up but didn't match the paint. The garbage dumpters are too small- by the time pick-up day rolls around, there are garbage bags flowing into the streets. The hallways leading to the apartments smell ungodly because of mildew and mold. The walls and ceilings are paper thin and you hear everything your neighbor is doing (and they hear you too). All of our windows and doors were drafty because they were not squared when hung. The maintenance man does not know how to fix things- he had to call someone in to hook up our satellite service because he had two wires backwards and that took an extra three days. And last but not least, the management was about as bad as it can get (and that is when any of them show up for work).

The bottom line is that the place is a dump and Lansing and surrounding areas have much better places to live.

office staff is completely different, if noise is such a problem then why haven't any residents called in noise complaints which can be made 24 hours a day and someone will be out within an hour to solve! If paint and place looks so horrible then why would anyone ever move in, in the first place. Obviosly doing something right if the entire place has a long waiting list and only one vacant unit in the entire community! Sorry for your bad experienes, but clearly when management and office staff canged so did the issues!

People, who do you believe? 8 residents/former residents who say the place is a dump? Or the manager, whose job it is to rent as many apartments as possible? Manager's salary depends on a positive image. What do I (and the other posters) stand to gain by telling the truth about Canal 2??? Enough said.
