I hated it here for the most part

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
These apartments were very affordable at first, and even when the rent increased, they were still very reasonable. Some people consider the neighborhood to be bad, but I absolutely never had any problems, and my neighbors in the apartment and in the surrounding homes were very friendly and helpful at times.
My problems lay with the management and the apartment upkeep. When I first applied for the apartment, I was shown an apartment, and told that mine would be just like it, but when I signed my lease and got the keys, the apartment looked totally different. It wasn't a huge deal, but the toilet overflowed and clogged up the first month I lived there on a daily basis. Piss, and fecal matter from who knows where came up through the tub, toilet, and sinks in the bathroom and kitchen. Maintenance attempted to fix it several times before finally getting it done properly. It took me 4 months of scrubbing and bleaching the bathtub before I would sit down in it to take a bath. No pets are allowed, but a hampster or gerbil (It was beige, fat, and furry) worked it's way through the vents from the third floor into my first floor apt. and scared me to death. I spent the whole day chasing it around trying to keep it from getting from the kitchen into the rest of my apartment and getting lost forever. Someone heard me screaming and thought I might have found their lost pet snake. WHAT!! Its fairly quiet, except for the usual noise you should expect when living with 40 other people. I could hear my neighbors above me walking, but it was no big deal. I had the police called on me and I recieved several letters from the office about noise and loud music coming from my 1st floor apartment at all hours from a psycho that stayed on the third floor. Im a science pre-dental major, and had class all day, and worked all night, and was rarely ever home unless I was sleep or studying. One day I was studying for a physics exam and my roomate was sleeping, and two police officers showed up at my door saying they just got a complaint about noise coming from my apartment from a woman on the third floor. They saw I was studying, and the whole place was mouse quiet, then they left.
Other than those incidents, the place was ok i guess. I wouldn't stay there unless I just really had to. I found out the place is HUD housing (Low Income), and you can't claim it on your taxes. Also, students pay the full amount for rent, but other residents have rent based on their income, and some people only pay $50 a month. This is not fair at all. Lastly, the office staff is kinda flaky. They had major attitudes some days, but people have bad days, so it's excused. I signed a moveout letter a day late, so 29 day notice was given of my moveout. I asked the office lady if this would be ok before I signed it to make sure they wouldn't charge me and extra month's rent, and she said it would be ok, and I would get my deposit back. Long story short, they took my deposit, and charged me an extra month in rent even though I wasn't living there and had returned the keys. And the office lady told the manager she didn't know what I was talking about when I brought up our discussion. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.
