It's Really Not That Bad . . .

From: -Anonymous-
Date posted: 8/4/2008
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008

CONS:
(1) The air conditioners are older than God and, because of their complete inefficiency, your summertime electric bills triple.
(2) The plaster is probably falling off your ceiling in some spots.
(3) The elevators are scary. One time, I swore I was going to die.
(4) The "fitness center" is really a graveyard of random pieces of exercise equipment that former residents left behind when they moved out. Half of it doesn't work.
(5) The "study area" is similarly situated; it's a bunch of old tables and couches that past residents left behind.
(6) My car has been broken into twice in the parking lot.
(7) The complex is located on the cusp of where the not-so-bad part of downtown meets the really-bad part of downtown. So, you get some pour-over.
(8) The inside of the apartments are very, very, very, very dated. There are mirrored walls and closet doors, faux wood countertops, pressboard cabinets, etc.
(9) Some douche tried to break into my apartment twice through the front door on Thanksgiving one year. The Lansing Police that showed up when I called were HOT! That should be under the "PROS" section below: hot cops.

PROS:
(1) The complex is within walking distance to Cooley Law School.
(2) The maintenance guy--Rollins (or Rock)--is really nice and talkative. He's a Nam vet and will tell you stories . . . .
(3) The office staff is nice, but the rollover has been unusually high. Shannon used to work here. She was great. Lindy worked there, who was also great. Now, there is a new woman. The jury is still out on her. Joe, the district manager, is very professional, but too shy if you ask me.
(4) The majority of the entire complex is all Cooley students who have the fear of God in them that they will be written up for something and their respective Bar Examiners will find out, so the place is very quiet and no one starts trouble.
(5) The price isn't bad at all, especially when you have a roommate. Everything is included except for electricity. And, because Lansing produces its own power, that's pretty inexpensive (unless you use your air conditioners).
(6) An exterminator comes in every month. I've never seen an insect in my apartment in 3 years there.
(7) There is instant hot water due to a hot-water circulator in the building.
(8) The laundry room has many washers and dryers to use.
(9) Parking is free (unless you want a covered spot, then it's $15 extra a month).
(10) The heat did break down once during the winter (that sucked), but once it was back up, the heat in my apartment was kept at a constant 78 degrees - perfect for walking around in your underwear!
