I've lived in the building for almost 2 years and its not been pleasant. First, if you are a law student (as I am), don't plan on any peace and quiet. This building is as loud as living next to a frat house during rush week. Constant parties and no one complains, so everyone thinks its ok with no regard to their neighbors. During finals time, this will really piss you off. You can call the cops, but they don't care too much. You can tell management, but they aren't here to hear it, so they don't believe it. I have actually come to believe that some of the people who live here make it their personal mission to be as loud as possible in the parking lot around 4 a.m. just to wake people up. I've been woken up by skateboarding, popping fireworks, screaming, fights, kids riding bikes, etc. all during the wee hours when every normal person would be sleeping, and no decent human being would be doing this stuff where everyone else can clearly hear you.
Second, most of the residents are very inconsiderate. They are trashy, rude, messy, loud, and bring all the riff-raff around. Don't expect to find any friends here or have your neighbors extend any common courtesies. Most of the time, they won't even hold the elevator or back door open for you when you are right behind them. They dirty the place up and trash it out at any opportunity. Any improvements made to the decor and grounds have been trashed by the other residents. I guess they don't want a nice place to live'
Third, your car will most likely get broken in to. Mine did, several other people's did also. Management won't tell you this and they try to hide the fact that the place is crime ridden from potential new law students who don't know any better. But trust me, your radio, etc. will be stolen at some point.
Fourth, maintenance is real nice, but slow as hell. That is, if he even comes. Most of the broken things around won't ever get fixed. The pool is slow to open and things take a long time to remedy.
The only good things to offer here are the large apartments which include heat and gas ranges, the balcony (when its quiet), and the manager's attempts to clean the place up. Yes, its close to Cooley, but many other nicer places are too. If you really want something nice, try Oldtown area, Motorwheels lofts, Prudden Place, the Arbaugh, or just drive around. There seem to be several nice houses for rent at reasonable prices. There are also nice lofts available if you look for by driving around.

Yes, we did have one resident who did create noise at 4am and he is gone. He was a Cooley student that did not care about other residents, but Fountain Place DOES care and we want a quiet environment for our residents. We are always responsive to complaints and treat them seriously. We cannot be responsible for people who don't hold a door for others; this happens everywhere.....the only vehicles that we were made aware of being broken into were those people that either: left their car unlocked, or left valuables in plain sight. The pool was slow to open in 2008, but that was due to a tornado that hit Lansing in June of that year. We cannot control nature. The sparkling pool was open Memorial Weekend through Labor Day weekend this year, on time.
