I needed an apartment fast and cheap a few years ago, and opted for Hunt Club because it was the ONLY place I found with a Lansing zip code that didn't remind me of a cave dwelling. The complex is clean and well-manicured (year-round!), and I've had excellent exchanges with the leasing office. They've always been accommodating to me, possibly because I pay my rent on time each month. I get the feeling that they have a few ... shall we say delinquent tenants.
The apartment itself is small. Thankfully, I'm rarely in it. If I was a person who stayed home a lot, this would not work. The 1-br units are designed somewhat poorly (you have to walk through the bedroom to get to the one bathroom), but they do provide a TON of closet-space. Fixtures and appliances are new, but I've heard that some other units aren't as well-equipped as mine. Noise levels are low, for the most part. The leasing office recently began enforcing a 10 p.m. curfew for minors, and that seems to have cut down on the night-time shenanigans.
I'd recommend Hunt Club as a quick, cheap solution if you're in a bind. If you're looking for an apartment with character, this might not be for you. It's a roof, it's safe, and stuff works. No bells, whistles, or serious amenities to speak of.
I will say that the outdoor pool in the summer is GREAT.
