Don't Live Here

I wish I had looked through these reviews before I moved into Oak Park. This was my first apartment and I had hoped for a more pleasant experience.

The apartments are very old. The maitenance is very poor. My cupboard face fell off the other day when I opened it. It was attached to the cupboard itself by a small piece of wood with one small nail. I was very upset and I knew how unreliable the maitenance crew is so I fixed it myself.

When I was looking for an apartment I was interested in SIZE, PRICE and whether they allowed my animals.

My rent was supposed to be $629.00 for a 2 bedroom apartment. There was to be refuge and heat charged as well. I understood that. What caught me off gaurd was when my second month rent bill came with a $50.00 water bill included. My utilities I had set up were supposed to be for water and light, but the apartment complex took it upon themselves to cancel my water and put it into the company they use ISTA.

Now, to completely understand how they are screwing me over you have to know what "proration" is. When ISTA charges Oak Park for the water, Oak Park then charges individuals according to the size of their apartment NOT BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF WATER USED. This number comes from taking a building with 8 apartments and dividing it evenly. It doesn't matter if you don't shower or do any laundry for a month, you will still have to pay for the water you neighbor uses. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXPLAINED WHEN I SIGNED MY LEASE.

The apartments aren't that great. And if you have animals, plan on paying a HUGE deposit and a monthly rent of $25.00 per animal.

This place seems to keep coming up with different ways to take my money. I am already looking for a new place to live. I would never, ever live here again. If you are interested in a GOOD place to live, this IS NOT THE PLACE!! Read the reviews, look at the rating!! It is low for a good reason, DO NOT LIVE HERE!

Read your lease. Residents have paid for a prorated share of water in the apartments since 2001. You have a central boiler system. There's no mystery about it. It is very CLEARLY stated in your lease. Don't you READ what you SIGN?
