There were a million things wrong that we put on our move-in check list that weren't fixed when we actually moved in, although they had almost a month to get it taken care of. The grates over the vents weren't cleaned before they were painted, so there is painted hair in the vents. They basement floor also has a puzzle piece painted down because I'm guessing they didn't sweep. There is almost always box elders on the second floor, and they said it's just something that happens. The screen door hasn't worked since we've lived here, even after they replaced it with a different (not new, just different) one. However, maintenance is usually pretty prompt. I've never had any problems with the people in the office, they always seem willing to help me out with any questions I have, and the neighbors are quiet enough. I also liked having a playground within walking distance, and being so close to I-96 and lots of stores and a few restaurants is nice.

UPDATE: One of the things we put on our move-in checklist was the kitchen counter. It was kind of bubbled up. When we moved in, it had been glued down and they left the piece of wood and the vice grip-thing. The glue held for a couple of months and it bubbled again. They nailed it down. It bubbled again. I think we had maintenance out to fix it about three times. However, the counter became scorched when the stove caught on fire (grease) and I unthinkingly set the pot on it. Well, although the counter was bubbled pretty much the entire time we lived there, they are going to charge us to have it replaced because of the scorch marks. We sent them a fax telling them that the counter was bubbled and needed to be replaced anyway...and they never responded. About two or three weeks goes by, so we call to make sure they got our fax, and Megan said something to the effect of how the head maintenance guy said that it is easier to keep nailing it down than it is to replace the entire thing, therefor we are still going to be charged. Huh' Why didn't they ever respond' Were they just going to send the bill anyway without even talking to us' I find this extremely rude and it is certainly no way to get any referrals from us.

Also, my school books were accidentally sent to my old townhouse there. I went to pick them up at the office, and the guy there was extremely rude. Didn't greet me when I came in, just went and got my package from the back. I was talking to him as I signed and everything, and another lady comes in. I was in the middle of a sentence and he turns to greet her and from that point on I was no longer there. That has to be one of the most rude things that has happened to me!

All in all, there are worse places to live. I just wish it were cheaper here.

The move in checklist is used to notate flaws in a home upon move in. If there were any mechanical flaws we open up service requests and have our technicians make any necesary repairs. Unfortunately with the paint we do use outside contractors and we had to direct the concerns to them. There is a distinct difference between a kitchen counter bubbling and being scorched therefore if you were charged for burning the counter top it seems that it would be a legitimate charge. The gentleman who anticipated your need for a package must have been the only person in the office at the time and therefore had an obligation to greet any other residents who's needs had not yet been met.
