2 Good Years

I'm in my last couple months in a 1 bedroom townhouse at Oak Park. I have been pleased overall with my 2 years here.

My review only concerns the town homes, I don't think I've ever set foot in an apartment.

Pros:
- Town homes have a bit of a "yard" connected to common outdoor areas. Mine was on the end of a building, in the corner of the property, so it was almost like a large private back yard.
- Maintenance has always been quick and fixed things right, even coming quickly when my heat went out on a Sunday evening.
- You can put some flowers or plants in the ground if you want in front or behind the townhouses.
- Sign a waiver that you'll prime the walls when you leave, and you can paint to your heart's content.
- The town homes are probably a little more expensive than local apartments with similar square footages, but you do get a basement with washer and dryer hookups which virtually doubles your space. I believe they've been working on putting washer and dryers in the town homes, included in your rent.
- Office staff has always been good with me, especially the lady who helped get us in when we didn't QUITE meet their credit standards. Service didn't drop off once we moved in.

Cons:
- Covered parking structures seem to be a popular place for criminals to sort through cars at night. I've had one broken auto window and items stolen a few times, some neighbors the same. I don't keep anything in my car anymore.
- Parking can be a big tight. In my particular cul-de-sac, there isn't even one free parking space for each dwelling. Plenty of pay to park spots, though!
- While indoor maintenance is great, and grass and such is mowed regularly in the summer, no fall cleanup takes place (at least in my area the last 2 years). Right now there's piles of leaves mulching themselves around the fences and corners that have been there since September (now May). If you have trees around your yard or common area and you'd like to enjoy the outdoors, plan on raking leaves yourself.

Im glad you have enjoyed your stay at Oak Park Village. Unfortunately many apartment complexes can tend to be hot spots for minor things like car break ins. Although overall I feel we have few incidents. Unfortunately we use contractors for fall clean up and are in the process of searching for new lawn care because we have also been dissastisfied with their fall clean up. Lawn Care Contractors can tend not to be as thorough as our own maintenance.
