I've been here for a year and I was thinking of moving elsewhere. After searching apartmentratings.com for nicer reviews/apartments, and also having just recently placed a maintenance order, I was reminded of why Ramblewood apartments isn't so bad after all...
First, the good: The apartments are well kept for being a little aging. Living on the 3rd floor I never hear my neighbors (except in the hallways). The staff is very friendly before and after signing the lease, and maintenance is incredibly responsive. I've never waited more than a day after putting in a maintenance request (except on Friday's since they don't work on the weekends).
The bad: The kitchen cabinet space is slim to say the least. Even for 1 person it's not enough. I've also seen nicer apartments in places like Okemos for about the equivalent price, so that's kind of a bother considering Okemos is generally considered to be a better location. As far as location is concerned, this is a nice, safe area, but pretty far away from the life of Lansing/East Lansing.
The "on-site laundry" should be taken with a grain of salt. The laundry dryers are incredibly old and virtually useless, and it will routinely take you 2-3 cycles to actually come out with dry clothing. At $1.50 a pop expect to be frequenting the laundry mat (there's one pretty close thankfully).
They had a whole bunch of really nice trees here when I moved in, which were not only nice to look at and provided a nice unique aesthetic to the complex, but also provided some balcony privacy. They cut probably 8 or more 50 year old trees down recently. It's really ruined a lot of appeal about living here.
But, despite the problems, I've decided to renew my lease, because generally I've never had any "real" problems here, thanks to the exceptional staff and maintenance team.
