No drama, easy living

I had a 1-bedroom "Cape Cod" apartment, in the community's cheapest section. Everything I've read about Trappers Cove gave the community good reviews, and after living there myself, I can't disagree. This place is great!

Living here was a very enjoyable experience. My apartment was very spacious and comfortable to live in. It's in a very safe area, convenient to work and to everywhere in Lansing I want to go. The landscaping wouldn't be out of place at a golf course. The other residents are very respectful and quiet. It was by far the best experience I've had in renting.

There's some frills that I missed out on - there was no dishwasher, for example. The kitchen is straight out of the '80's. Also, being on third floor kept me warm year-round. The window A/C unit was hard pressed to keep up once it got into the summer, and the standard workaround - running the furnace fan - bites you back hard when the electric bill comes.

There's one more deal-breaker for some - the very strict no-pets policy. Unlike how some reviewers have reported, they are very clear about the existence of this policy and what the ramifications are if you break it. If you dare to risk the $200 fine for having pets, you better be prepared to pay up if caught.

That's all one can complain about!

It was a rarity to find things that needed repair, but when they were, the maintenance staff was on top of it. The office staff was always friendly and helpful, and willing to work with me and my changing circumstances.

The community is in an area with a lot of college students, but Trappers Cove doesn't attract loud, rude, and obnoxious residents. The students who live here tend to be older and in grad school, and the other residents are generally working professionals.

The exterior of the Cape Cod buildings were refreshed with new paint and new roofs during the summer of 2008. The staff did an excellent job about notifying residents of the work being done and with selecting a contractor who was respectful of the residents in performing the work.

I did an extensive search of the area apartments before settling on Trappers Cove. They seem to be expensive until you factor in that all utilities besides phone, cable and electric are free. A lot of other communities play games with the rent, attracting you with a teaser rate and then sticking you for things that should be included. One you've done the math, Trappers Cove is very competitively priced.
