Hated the experience

I lived at Northport for about two years, and I must say they got me going onto finally getting a house, I hated it there that much. And the house is worth every penny for the peace of mind!

At Northport, the apartments were nice, maybe still are, though the phase one's (the older apartments) had a lot more wear and tear. They re pretty roomy and heat and water are included, and a washer and dryer is in each apartment. That's good. The grounds were nice though I wish they'd plow more regularly after a snowfall. Sometimes you had to wait days, and it was irritating to dig yourself out and then have to dig a new spot for yourself later on at night because they still hadn't plowed.

If you have a problem such as a leak or something jamming, maintenance was fairly prompt.

The real problem, however, is at the office. There almost always is a new girl working there, and while they deal with you nicely, they don t come across as terribly efficient. Anything besides filling out an order for maintenance or taking your rental application seems to be too complicated for them, or maybe that s the extent of their training. And if you had a concern about noise, etc., forget about it.

On top of that it s about the noisiest and nastiest place I have ever lived in. I could hear one neighbor s TV clearly at night, and another neighbor seemed to enjoy playing with his stereo at any and all hours and they sit out on their balcony and yack half the night. Gee thanks... I have to work at 8 a.m., so I really wasn t wanting the sleep anyways. In my poor college years I lived for a while above a bar. I paid $200 a month (everything included), and yes, it was noisy, which I expected, considering it was a bar, but I paid more than four times that amount now, and got similar noise levels. Only good thing is no one is getting into a fight in the parking lot. And management won t do a damn thing about the noise, saying that residents should know courtesy. Well, they don't! Before moving in, I asked if it was soundproofed, and they said yes, to absorb sounds and washer/dryer noise. I never heard anybody's dishwasher or washer or dryer going, but I heard everything else. On top of noise, I was really disgusted by a lot of other stuff. One night some guys across the lake were partying and shooting off airborne fireworks, making lots of noise. We called management and they said they couldn't do anything about it. Others were complaining and they knocked on the door and no one would answer. Later on we found out the noisemakers were peeing off the balcony. How sick, especially for their downstairs neighbors. Pigs like that should be evicted. On top of that we had noisy neighbors next door to us who would sit on their balcony and smoke, drop butts all over the place and keep their trash on the balcony too. Did management do anything' Yeah, they gave everybody in the building a warning notice, never mind how frickin' obvious it was who was making a mess. On top of that, one day I heard a sound so I looked outside the front door through the peephole and I saw another piggy neighbor out there, peeing on the steps! Sick! Then the downstairs neighbor became a pig too and would leave bags of trash outside his door for days. Is it that hard to walk to the dumpster' But then again, Northport hardly ever emptied the dumpsters, maybe once a week, and by the time the trash pickup came through the dumpster was overflowing and boxes and bags and furniture were all around the dumpsters.

I would be curious to know the amount of time the average tenant lives at Northport. At my old apartment, some of my neighbors had lived there for seven years or more. I left that place for a balcony and a washer and dryer. I m not sure if it was worth it. I hated the place. I still hate it. It's a lovely place in concept only, and I feel sorry for anyone who wants a nice quiet place to live.

Though I have to add, when we moved out, management was prompt in refunding our deposit, 100 percent. We took good care of our apartment, left it pretty clean, with no damage, so we deserved it. But I give them credit for paying us back within the required time.

Maintenance was fairly prompt. The office staff was NICE but a little inefficient. They refunded your deposit. The place is nice by your own admission. Your complaint is not about Northport but with peoples lifestyle and behavior. Society in general has problems with that. Your did the right thing by moving to a house. Don't blame Northport for societal issues.
