"HedgeHOOD"

Okay, first time renter, and now last time renter! My boyfriend and I were looking to a nice place to rent here in Midland when my job transferred me away from our home town. We had A TON of issues finding NICE apartments that were large enough for our belongings as well as decently priced that also would take higher income families (since more than half of apartment complexes in midland are government funded they wont let anyone stay there if you make over a certain amount of money). We picked Northwind Forest because of the proximity to our jobs, as well as the surrounding area seeming pretty quiet and relaxed (also surrounded by huge mansion sized homes).

Our appliances are beyond old, more like something you would find at goodwill, the master bedroom was infested with lady bugs all winter (I literally had to vacuum 100's up a week), now that spring is here there are ants in my bathroom, the neighbors downstairs smoke so much pot that you can smell it upstairs, the caulking around the bathtub is molding because whoever installed it CAULKED OVER old caulk which is a no-no, the people above me are constantly stomping around like they're mad, or they're screaming at their 8 year old (and yes I can hear every word they say from underneath them! (and to think, the manager told us when we got this apartment that it was in one of the BEST buildings... I can't imagine anything worse than this)) I've been locked in my own room and had to wait for some one to come to our apartment to remove the door handle because one of the ancient door handles gave out and wouldn't unlock and to top it all off our car was broken into!!

The police officer and I spoke for quite some time about the area and to my suprise he said that the local law enforcement has been referring to this area on Hedgewood Dr. as "HedgeHOOD Dr." He went on to say that there have been nights where police were called here 6 times!! The night that our car was broken into, a moving trailer was completely wiped clean by these people who seem to be targeting this area. I am very disappointed to find that I am imprisoned in this area until my lease is up, well at least unless I want to pay 3,150 dollars to buy out my lease not to mention another 1000 dollars to replace all of the stolen items from my car...

What I would take away from this if you are looking to rent in this area is...
1. Do updates matter to you' Because if they do - don't look here for them.
2. Do you want to feel like you're getting a good deal for what you pay for' Because if you're looking for deals look elsewhere (I feel that we're being ripped off - similar apartments run for HUNDREDS less and sometimes even include washer and dryer hookups IN them)
3. Do you hate bugs' If you hate bugs you may want to look elsewhere. Every season a new bug shows up in our apartment. First ladybugs, then ants... I dont even want to know whats next.
4. How secure are your belongings' Do you have a car alarm' If you move ANYWHERE in this area I would suggest spending the money for a good alarm system, You're going to need it.
5. Look Look and Look for apartments or rentals, get a good deal, one that you can FEEL GOOD about. When people say renting in apartment complexes is dangerous I will tell you YES, BELIEVE IT. You never know who is lurking out in the parking lot!

Finally I must give some kudos

The management is very friendly and courteous, they've always been a pleasure to work with and I know that they've got their hands tied about A LOT of things. This kind of apartment community isn't completely run in town, or even in state for that matter. I'm sure the owners are just looking for a paycheck just like anyone else out there and the management is always at the front line taking the blame for things they have no control over.

Other than that, I'm moving out in November and will never be back!
