Park Place rents a large number of their units to an organization called Community Links. This organization houses people who have brain damage. If you are one of the renters who live near one of their clients, you are in for an experience.
Examples: Caretakers arrive every morning to give medication to thier clients. Without medication, many have anger issues....Most can not work even part time because of violent emotional outbursts. Park Place at times hires some of the more capable people for part time work at their pool and at their breakfast....Police have been called and charges have been filed often because of violet behavior....Community Links caretakers spend hours in their cars parked in the parking lots talking on their cell phones and doing paperwork...Community Links last year housed their office in one of Park Places apartment units. The Northville Planning Department forced them to move out because of numerous complaints by residents....I could go on but I think you get the picture.
Other than the hassles of living near one of Community Links clients, Park Place is an above average apartment. I would suggest you ask before you move in and sign a lease if you will be living near one of the Community Links clients.

To Anonymous comments 10/3/2007;
Community Links is an exceptional organization directed at rehabilitating individuals that have had traumatic Brain injuries. This organization works their clientele back into the social environment they once belonged to, while continuing to assist them in ways that you and I would never imagine. The caregivers of community Links are well trained, well educated, and more than capable of assisting these individuals. Community Links has a proven and successful track record. The comment posted on October 3, 2007 is a comment extracted from ignorance and a lack of substantial and accurate information. The individuals that have suffered traumatic brain injuries didn???t ask for the unfortunate event in their life, nor did they deserve it. Your comments not only violate the privacy of these individuals but slander the integrity of a great organization that helps, not only in a humanitarian way, but in a way that gives meaning and hope to these people. As Dale Carnegie stated, "Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self control to be understanding", moreover, in addition to being understanding, it takes character to be compassionate and forgiving to individuals that make, now, a life long attempt to ???Fit in??? to a social environment that they once so effortlessly belonged to. To the individual that posted those horrendous comments on October 3, 2007, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

Hmm... I wonder if this response was posted by someone from Community Links?
Personally, I agree with the original poster. I have lived at Park Place for two years with a Community Links neighbor that lives in my building. Coincidentally, that same neighbor has been one of the greatest sources of aggravation for me. I have had to haggle over parking spots with their caretakers (several of them keep insisting on using my spot instead of their own). Park Place management has been unhelpful in helping me resolve this. When I have confronted the offending caretakers and asked them to stop parking in my spot, they have been unfriendly and combative. One of them went so far as to scream vulgarities at my wife, which I find unprofessional and inexcusable.
I have no problems with with persons that suffer disabilities. I would just prefer not to pay a premium price for an apartment in a prime location that also serves as a halfway house.
To write such eloquent responses that aim to attack and shame others into ignoring the crass unprofessional reality that is the Community Links I have come to know.

I personally know --------- and he is not an employee of Community Links. In response to the most recent comments, I believe an attempt was made to demonstrate that a lack of compassion exists for those who can no longer continue to provide for themselves, or, at best need assistance for the remainder of their life. Additionally, an attempt was made to demonstrate a need for compassion and patience to those that provide these much needed services on a daily basis and have made what they do, their personal mission. Thank God for these people! To state that Park Place is a "Halfway House" not only contradicts your statement in regards to not having a problem, but is again, an insult to the residents that are receiving these services and further demonstrates your lack of willingness to be compassionate. Park Place is their home as much as it is yours. Interpersonal relationship skills, understanding conflict resolution and putting them to work can go a long way in resolving ones differences. Life is not about a parking spot. If shame is what you or anyone else feels than one should change their outlook on life.

I have lived at Park Place for 7 months and had no idea that this was an issue for some residents. The complex is very large, and I would imagine that not everone has problems as this poster has experienced.

I live across from Community Link members. They have caused me no such grief, are polite and non violent people. To whine, complain and say what a hassle it is to live near these individuals, shows a great lack of compassion indeed. I believe the word is discrimination. As far as safty goes, you take your chances in apartment living ...period.

Taking your chances with apartment living is one thing. There are risks EVERYDAY just by being alive in general.
That doesn't mean I'm going to increase my chances of having something bad happen!
Lack of compassion... I think not. It's called showing LOVE and CONCERN for MY OWN CHILD! I feel bad for these individuals. It's really sad. But like I said, MY CHILD is FIRST! And if you have a child, I would HOPE that you felt the same way.
If you have a child, would you live next door to a rehabilitated pedophile? A pedophile who couldn't control themselves in the past, but was getting the help they need but haven't committed any crimes lately? Again, I would hope not. The bottom line here is, why risk it? If these poor people have the POTENTIAL to cause harm to others, why on earth would I want them near my kid!!!

I lived in Park Place Apartments near the Community Links office. I moved to get some piece in my life. Community Links ran their business from a 2 bedroom apartment prior to being forced out by Northville Township.Their organization had gatherings of up to 20 people on a weekly basis. Their employees were rude and arrogant. They brought their dogs to work with them and let their dogs run without a leash. The employees parked in others assigned spots frequently. They conducted their business on the sidewalk laughing, talking loud, and smoking in front of other apartments because of the cramped conditions in their apartment office. They sat in their cars for hours doing paperwork and talking on their cell phones. I was very concerned about safety because of the volume of unfamiliar people coming and going at all hours of the day and night. Community Links should never have been allowed to run their business out of a residential apartment. Shame on Park Place Management for allowing this to happen. Because of my negative experience with this situation, I will always ask many questions about who my neighbors are.

I think this review is somewhat discriminatory. What? People with traumatic brain injury can't live independently? Gimme a break!

To those that post malicious, false, and defamatory statements regarding individuals that have had traumatic brain injuries, calling them "Pedophiles" and "Violent" people as demonstrated in your above stated opinions.....lend yourselves to a division of cranial disfigure that extends substantially beyond all our imaginations. The "Victims" are the ones who need humanitarian assistance. Arrogance is the epicenter of the degredation of our society. You people who purport victimization from a simple experience outside the realm of what you consider to be "Normal", speak from ignorance, foolishness but mostly, selfishness. Contemptuously impertinent statemets from those that are driven in their attempt to sustain their own delerium of superiority over others, are who you really are.

If being a "Victim" is the vernacular you choose, then being a victim of the circumstances you testify to is your choice as well, as illustrated by your decision to continue to live where you do. If you are not satisfied with your surroundings then be proactive in your lives and the lives of the ones you love and do something about it, rather than just simply complain, although I truly doubt that your experiences are really that detrimental. After all, we are in a civilized country.

People on this site talk about doing "research" but they don't actually do it. There is such thing called "Fair Housing" which is very strict. One of the protected classes is "Disability". That means that discriminating against any person with a disability is punishable by law. Both the apartment community and the leasing agent will be sued. You may not like it, but you need to understand that there is NOTHING the management office can do when you ask them to break the law! This is just one of the down sides of renting.

The law holds citizens accountable for their actions whether the individual suffers from brain trauma, bi-polar disease, mere intoxication, or otherwise. ???Oh, I am sorry officer; I killed this person during a recent brain fart.??? ???Ok little Suzie, why didn???t you say so? You go on ahead now and be sure and take care of that brain trauma???. Come on! The law protects people with disabilities and for good reason. It is very sad and we should all have compassion for our less fortunate brethren. The majority of concerns posted here, however, are legitimate. In addition to disabled folks who deserve a safe place to live, I would like to comment on those who appear to be ???normal??? and their down right rude, inconsiderate behavior. Like those who park in people???s spot, those who do not use the proper dog walks, and those who disregard quiet hours. Furthermore, the new manager at Park Place does not ensure the safety of the residents by putting appropriate lights in the carports. The woman is obnoxiously pompous and rude and the rent here is too high to put up with an ungrateful property owner. She cuts many corners with respect to maintenance, too. Disabilities aside, the quality of residents has fallen far below acceptable levels for the money. Take your dogs, wild cats left unattended, bad attitudes, loud children, big screen TV???s, beer-drinking parties, and buy a home. If you cannot afford a home, live like an apartment dweller and respect your neighbor. Incidentally, I am interested in how the police respond to all of the calls. Thank you to all of you who posted your opinions. Do not let anyone convince you to tuck in your tail and walk away. That is what the government attempts to have us do. Freedom of speech is a constitutional right. If it is a sin to want to stay away from pedophiles then Lord, forgive us all!
