Well my fiance and i moved into brownstones in 2004 we lived there for 2 years from April 2004 to May 2006. When we first moved in it was GREAT! We loved the space tons of storage, huge bedrooms and nice fixtures and good appliances. Apartment was VERY VERY VERY clean when we moved in the first day. I was very impressed, i mean it was SPOTLESS!!! Well we lived in one of the Apartments where we shared a garage. We were not crazy about the idea but we knew prior to sighning the lease that we would be sharing a garage. The leasing agents are all VERY Nice, we were able to see the ACTUAL apartment we would be leasing before we put any money down, which i thought was great, because we knew EXACTLY what we were getting. Well They held the apartment for us for 2 MONTHS after we put a $250 deposit down, which was great most places say you have to sign next week to get the special but not brownstones! well we THOUGHT we were getting a "GREAT DEAL" the leasing agent told us that our apartment usually rented for $1595 a month and they were running a "SPECIAL" for ONLY $1150, wow what a deal we thought!!! So we sign our lease everything is peachy. We had GREAT Neighboors we immediatly became friends! Then we start talking about our rent and they ask us how much we pay'!!' we tell them $1150 they go WOW i thought we were getting ripped off at $1050!!! They had pretty much the same apartment as us just we were on the upper level and they were on the lower. We think oh no big deal ours is a little bit bigger then theres thats why we pay $100 more. Then we talk to our neighboors that live on the end of the building that have the EXACT same apartment as us On the end same layout same EVERYTHING! Well they only pay $905 a month!!!!! WHAT'!'!'! We are paying $250 MORE a month then them'!!' JUST PROVES TO YOU THAT THE MANAGEMENT CAN BE SHADY. They don't tell you that there are cheaper apartments in the complex they told us that that was the only layout available. But the neighboors that we talked to thet pay $250 less a month for the same LAYOUT moved in 2 WEEKS BEFORE US!!!!!! They scam people they don't give you the best deal at all!!! Also we liked it there so we lived there for 2 years rent stayed the same $1150 for both the 2 years (we sighned two 12 month leases) At the end of our lease we were thinking about moving into a different layout but still staying in brownstones just to a diffrent apartment that was cheaper. So I went & talked to a leasing agent and told her i want $900 and under in rent. She showed me a few different layouts for $995 well none under $900 so we decided to move. But the week we moved out I called and pretended that i was a interested customer and said i had looked at the layouts online and wanted to know the prices, well i asked about the layout that i had currently lived in and what was the price none other then $925.00 So i was pissed but whatever!!! I do have to say that if you can afford it great but if you are struggeling go somewhere else all apartments are built like crap so save your money and rent a cheap apartment! But i have to say that anytime anything was broke or even if a lightbulb was out they would be there in an hour or two to fix it. So the maintence on small things were good. But Management also liked to fine for stupid things like we had a shared garage well our neighboors moved out and no one moved in for almost a year well we kept all of our belongings on the side we parked on well since no one was living there we started keeping our grill on the opposite side so it was easier to get out when a car was there. well we got a letter saying we were violating our lease by putting things on both side of our garage! and if we did not move it then we would be fined $250, it was so stupid then we got fined for having pet waste in our yard (because the snow melted) and it was not even our dogs!!! if was the neighboors!!! And obviously they do not fine everyone for pet waste because if you walk around the community there was just PILES of dog poop in front yards! I mean people they supply doggie poop bags USE THEM!!!! Also we always had a problem with the bedroom closet doors falling off! i know it was just poor construction but so is every other apartment! PARKING WAS OK but if you have a TRUCK or bigger SUV good luck on getting it into those 1 CAR Garages you won't be able too! They fit but you can't open the doors! haha I have to say that i RARELY EVER HERD MY NEIGHBOORS i mean they have TONS OF PARTIES ALLLL THE TIME TOO! WITH LIKE 40 PEOPLE AND I COULD NEVER HEAR A THING UNLESS I PUT MY EAR UP TO THE SHARED WALL!!! so i would say noise was pretty good, i lived on an upper end apartment though. The only thing i hated was PARKING on the streets! If anyone was having a party WATCH OUT! There would not be a spot ANYWHERE!!!!!!!! BUT I WOULD GIVE BROWNSTONES 3 OUTTA 5 STARS, trust me where i live NOW is MUCCCCHHHH WORSE!!!!

Just an FYI...paying different prices within a complex is the norm unless you live at a tax credit property. That's why they call it a "special". It's a special rate for the day, week, or month. Maybe next time you'll be an informed shopper?!?

I live here now and so far I like it. Unfortunately we were put in a building with ghetto loud people but it could be worse. The one thing I gripe about now is that our neighbors have a dog that they just let run out the front door (no leash) and they never clean up its waste - EVER. We have a dog too and even though we informed one of the leasing consultants of the issue, sometimes I fear we might be the ones to get the fine.

Ghetto is correct. this place is a hole. the walls suck. the neighbors are loud. the grounds are not kept up as i have muddy water infront of my place all the time.. the ulities are outragous.. over 100 a month for one person to live here... and if yuo need to get out early on your lease they wont even help at all. I would never rent from this place again or any singh property. the staff puts a front on when they see you but you find out soon enough. I wouldnt go to the pool in the summer because of how many people from other cities east of here would show up...i didnt go once... you pay for water and trash and everything.... there are no perks of living here....

due to the economy, many apartment complexes are having to charge for trash and water, and that's not on them, it's mostly the cities. Brownstones has curb side trash pick up, which is a million times better than crummy, critter infested dumpsters. at my current apartment, Portsmouth, which is owned by Edward Rose, there was actually a homeless man living in my dumpster. I would do anything to pay for trash removal. I tried to move into the Brownstones earlier in the summer, and Edward Rose would not let me out of my lease. it's not just Singh that doesn't let you, believe me. there are also many Michigan laws that mandate leases and what a company can and can not do (I found this out after Edward Rose wouldn't let me out, my friend is real estate attorney). and with the changing of the demographic, I hate to say it, but it's everywhere. you're just going to have to deal with it. I think that before you make accusations, you need to be informed. the Brownstones is a very nice community.
