I have lived in Portsmouth for about 14 months, and there is still a horrible smell in my apartment. It smells like smoke, mixed with mold, and a little bit of musty odor. I spoke with the management in the office when I moved in, and they wouldn't do anything about it. So I replaced the furnace filter (paid for it myself), and it got a little better. But it still smells. If I keep the windows closed for too long, it gets really bad. Also, the water softener makes the washer overflow if you use even the slightest amount of detergent. It took the maintenance guys about three times in my apt to figure out why it was leaking.
