Stay away from these people!

This is the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in. I actually had an apartment rented at Saddle Creek next door but opted for ROW. The Saddle Creek girl tried to warn me but I didn't listen.
To start with, the apartment I saw was the model. Very impressive. But when they got my apartment "ready", I was disgusted. There were bees nests all over the place outside, everything was dirty, the doorknob to the outside storage was falling off, the walls of the garage had damage from opening car doors, (the garage was also filthy), the kitchen cabinet doors hung crooked because they didn't have enough of the right kind of screws in them. Everthing just looked very old and not kept up. There was paint slopped around on the trim and dripped outside everywhere. There were outside lights burned out and there was even a BROKEN WINDOW in the kitchen. There was a bunch of broken up asphalt in my front yard. I tried to get them to clean it up for a month, then I went and put it all in a pile at the edge of the driveway. They still wouldn't pick it up. This is what they call "move in ready". I bet if I took it and dumped it on the front steps of the rental office they'd pick it up right away! Then again, maybe not. But I didn't want to get thrown out. I went to the office and they fill out their stupid little forms. The maintenance guys do come around, but they don't fix anything they just write, "noted" on the form and turn it back in to the office. I had 13 items on my list and they only "addressed" 2 of them, one being the broken window which they eventually replaced 3 DAYS before my move out! Guess they wanted to get that fixed for the new renter. They give you such lip service in the office about how much they care and how seriously they take everything, but they don't. The paint was peeling off the front door on the apartment next to me, an eyesore. Their excuse was that it was too cold to paint and they were waiting for spring. Actually, when they said this, it was already spring. The inside of the garage got this same excuse. Summer came and went, no paint. I kept going back to the office and everytime I did, they would fill out one of these maintenance forms. I had written down the items previously and asked where that list was. I was told it was "filed away" and she would have to "dig it out". Like that was something that would take a week. I wondered why it would be filed away if they were going to do anything about the things on that list. They filed it alright. Two seconds after I walked out the door. The best part is on about my fifth trip back to the office, she gives ME the form to fill out. Amazing, they don't do squat but when I go back to complain they coyly put the ball back in my court, requiring futher action on my part (filling out a form) before anything is done, or should I say not done. The roadways are horrible as well. There are "bumps" every 50 feet or so where they patched the asphalt after trenching across the roadway at intervals. But they didn't fill in enough and there are basically "ditches" that rattle your teeth.
The worst part is when I moved out. Uli (the "manager") told me he wanted me to stay, of course, but at that time I told him the air conditioner evaporator was dumping water on my carpet in the corner. He said he would send someone right over, acting all concerned. No one ever came and I had to move my furniture and belongings to one side of the living room to avoid damage. I asked him if I could have till the end of the week to think about it, which would go beyond the 30 days written notice policy. He said sure no problem, but he would need the notice if I moved out. He said to date it the first and that would work. I decided to move out. Well, I went to give him the letter but someone else took it, and of course they date stamped it. When I wondered why my security deposit refund never came ($500) called to inquire. No one was ever available and they took about 3 or 4 messages. I finally gave up and drove over there. When I got there I was informed no one there could "help" me, would I please leave my phone number. I stated no way I had already done that, I needed to talk to somebody. A lady finally "helped" me by pulling up my account. It read like this: since I gave "inadequate notice" I was billed the following month at the month-to-month rate of $1560. They in effect confiscated my security deposit, leaving a balance owing of $1060. I demanded to see Uli, he wasn't there he didn't return my calls before, but this time amazingly he did. But, strangely, he didn't recall this conversation we had. I knew I was in a legally unwinnable situation, so I went in and paid him with a check, and he gave me a receipt. A couple of months later I started receiving letters from a collection agency Pierce, Hamilton, and Stern demanding payment of an outstanding debt of $1060. I got the cancelled check fax from the bank and everything and called the debt company. But the letters are still coming. Its so ridiculous. They have the worst accounting in the world. I never got one invoice that didn't have an error on it. Bottom line, a rip-off, a stressful, noisy, dirty place to live. It does have curb appeal, and there's always fresh cookies in the clubhouse, but apart from that, it is the worst dive I've ever lived in. And it has a bunch of greedy scumbags running the place. NOT RECOMMENDED!
