I've lived here for nearly three weeks now. My dream is to take a hot shower. The combination faucet delivers luke warm when it is turned all the way over to hot. Otherwise it is pretty cold. Neither management nor maintenance has responded to my requests for service. My washer shimmies like a stripper; I suspect bad bearings in the cylinder. Perhaps I'll get some repair service after it crashes through the laundry door. The grease pans on the stove are the wrong ones for this model. So my front burners are slanted about five degrees. I bent them in an attempt to lower the slant, but they still aren't right. Eighteen days for the hot water to be fixed; the stove will probably need to be replaced. Good luck with that.
In my first week I talked with a few other residents. They all said that this was a good place to live. Mechanically, I have to disagree strongly.
Last Saturday I found a strange bill in my mailbox. It was for water and trash services. It told me that I could include this in my rent payment. I was perplexed because the leasing agent had told me that I would receive my water bill from the city. So I went up to the office to see what this was all about. As helpfully as she was able, she explained that the bill wasn't very much. Not the answer to the question that I had asked. Well, it turns out that Novi doesn't send me a bill, but this other company does. Oh. My question now is: are the leasing agents poorly trained, incredibly stupid, or do they just like to lie'
New problem too. When the humidity gets over 50% (this is Michigan), I have trouble locking my door because it's warped.
It's a cold October morning. I haven't turned on the heat yet because it promises to warm soon. There's a gap at my front door, top and bottom, where I can see outside. Maintenance promised new weather stripping, telling me that I didn't have to fill out a work order. That was three weeks ago. I shudder to think what my furnace filter looks like, but I imagine I'll have to go look. I'm very much looking forward to moving out when my lease expires.
Now it's early February. The cold has abated for a few days and the snow is melting. Everywhere you look there are large piles of dog poop. If it stays warm, the stench will be amazing. I have two neighbors who clean up after their pets, and one who doesn't. It's on the sidewalks and in the road; always look down when you walk around here.
