Don?t Even Think About It

Years at this apartment: 1992 - 1998
I moved to Northgate Apartments (now called "Bridgewater Village") in March of 1992. It was my first apartment. It seemed OK at first, till I noticed that a lot of different kinds of bugs were getting into the apartment. The back section of the complex has hot-water baseboard heat, so there are holes in the the corners of many of the walls, and many of these holes are open to the outside air. There were many silverfish and centipedes in the section where I lived, and I used many cans of RAID to constantly kill them off. In addition to that, the buildings back there had a severe ant problem. I put Combat bait discs down to kill them off, but they would eventually come back in a few weeks. Also, from time to time, a severe mouse and rat problem comes up. From what I?ve been told, that problem still exists today, as does the ant problem. My building was infested with mice and rats several times. These mice and rats come in waves. You?ll see a bunch of them appear all at once in several different apartments in a particular building....then....if you and/or your neighbors happen to catch them all....you might not see any for a few weeks or months, but another bunch of those critters always shows up. You need to have quite a few mouse traps set to keep the situation under control.
Another problem is the heat and air conditioning. The Worst! Hot-water heat means a lot of humidity. As a result, there is a big mildew problem in the bathrooms and on the windows. I used a lot of Tilex, and a lot of Lysol, and I was spraying every day.
This place doesn?t have central air. Each apartment (no matter what size you get) comes with one window air conditioner that is mounted in the living room wall. It will cool your living room OK, but that?s about it. The rest of your apartment is burning hot. Some of these AC units are quite old too.
NO dishwasher in the kitchens. Lots of cabinet space, though.
The neighbors weren?t that great either. People that lacked common courtesy....and common sense. Loud music, yelling, loud mufflers....cars that won?t start, etc.
There was a lot of noise there. The walls are paper-thin, as are the floors and ceilings. You can hear all kinds of stuff that your neighbors are doing and saying. There was also a loud music problem in my building.
Another problem is the laundry situation. Each building has one washer and one dryer. That?s simply not enough machines. In addition to that, there are people there who always leave their clothes in the washer or dryer for and extended period of time. One lady that lived upstairs from me left her clothes in the washer for 3 days!
The cleanliness was not good. The buildings were not properly or regularly cleaned most of the time. The maintenance work was OK, but you often had to wait a while for service, unless it was an emergency.
The biggest problem there was (and still is) the fires that have plagued that complex for many years. BIG FIRES! Most fires there burn up 10 to 15 apartments. It?s a very serious problem that they have done little or nothing about. They just rebuild. Some new management took over and they fixed a few things, but they also increase the price to more than what I pay for where I am now, which is a much nicer place with central air and a dishwasher.
Anything positive' The pools was nice.....if you could put up with all the blaring radios and the unruly residents.
