The Projects of Oak Park

Ground maintenance is terrible. There are dead bushes and over grown weeds that look like trees. I even saw a metal pole being used to support a "weed." The apartment complex is not friendly towards children. The management told the staff to remove a toy basketball hoop that was in the playground area. I could see if it was a milk crate nailed to a light pole, but I'm talking about a toy that numerous children enjoyed playing with.
The lawns look a wreck due to management lack of monitoring to the move-ins/outs. People create tire tracks from U-Haul trucks and it causes muddy conditions when it rains. The parking lot is not any better. Its hard to drive and park due to the numerous pot holes. There are little rocks and chunks of gravel and concrete all over the parking lot along with broken glass. Cars sit in the lot with flat tires causing eye sores.
There are a lot of younger people that live here. At the same time you have a few elderly people that probably would move if they could but can't due to fixed incomes/SSI. This is no place for an elderly person. The steps in the apartments are not wide so it seems as if you are going to fall down. There are missing rails which creates a hazard for both adults and children.
Upon your visit, they will show you a nice, refurbished unit with new appliances, carpet, and blinds but what you actually get is a different story. When you ask about the nicer apartments the tell you the rent is $100 extra. In a way that's false advertisement.
The staff is like a revolving door. The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. They have people that they hire from places like Labor Ready to work here for at weeks at a time. The cleaning crew pushes around a shopping cart that they probably stole from Aldis somewhere. They look like homeless people combing thru the apartments.
With the young tenants that occupy most of the units you get a lot of noise from the apartments and in the parking lots. At night its like a mini Belle Isle Locks on the doors do not help because people prop them open so their friends and ultimately strangers and go in and out with ease. The smell of refer just lingers in the hallways. Its common to see a lot of Oak Park police over here.
You can read the other replies and tell this is not a nice, let alone decent place to live. If you are going to pay $600 a month or more for rent you deserve better. This place is straight trash and I do not recommend it to my worse enemy.
