Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
My husband and I moved to the Village Green Townhomes in July of 2001. From the very start, I was greatly disappointed in the community. Our unit was in no way cleaned (there was hair in the refridgerator--come on!) and many problems that we asked them to fix before we moved in (broken screen door, broken windows) were not fixed at move-in. It actually took them almost a month to fix a broken window that I notified them of before we moved in (they allowed us to see the unit before we even applied for it, which was very nice). The unit was filthy when we moved in (I actually had to have them replace our blinds because there was-no kidding-at least an inch of dust and filth on them) and they never did give us any compensation for all of the extra cleaning that I had to do to make it inhabitable. When we applied for the apartment, the leasing consultant told us that they would take care of setting up all utilities (except phone and cable), but when we signed the lease, WE had to scramble to get the utilities in our name. It took maintenance almost two months to fix a leak in our basement (which caused a nice little river to flow straight through our basement) and two more months to put in a the correct electrical outlet so that we could use an electric dryer. Other maintenance issues that came up were never really fixed. They kept promising this magical clubhouse that never appeared (eight months after we moved out it is still not completed) and parking was a nightmare. The walls are paper thin (I got to hear my next-door neighbor blowing his nose every single morning and smell his cigar smoke every day) and there were quite a few sketchy characters around. The leasing staff were wonderful (except for the incompetants they had when we first moved in, who I am happy to say are all gone) and they will try to bend over backwards to help you (though sometimes they can't). All in all, it fit what we were looking for at the time, but I would seriously think about your decision before you sign your lease.
