You can get a better apt. than this complex and right nearby

I have been at Auburn Heights (AH) for a year an four months and pay $700 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment with no utilities included, which brings it up to about $800 per month. There are other complexes nearby that are cheaper and of the same or better quality that you can live in. The security gate, like most others, is really a "feel good" amenity as it stays open for 30 seconds after opening and if you pull up to it before it closes, it will re-open. One of my friends stayed for a couple of nights and had her car broken into, though nothing was stolen, and I have heard multiple other car alarms go off near my apartment in the night. Unfortunatly, parking is to the side of the apartments, and there are no windows facing the spaces, which likely contributed to the willingness of people to try breaking into cars. That being said, this is not necessarily management's fault as much as it is the fault of the people living in that area. You are responsible for your own patio/garden area so disregard any claims about management not keeping it nice; this is your own area to garden in if you so desire. Overall, the apartment is in good shape, though I dislike the stoves as there is a constant pilot light on, which is always burning a tiny amount of gas, and this caused my gas bill to never drop below $25 per month. There are tons of parking places around, so disregard any comment to the contrary, though not everyone gets a covered space. Maintenance is very friendly though they are slow to resolve problems and not experts on everything; I had to call 7 times and get the maintenance guys to come out 4 times in orde to get my leaky shower faucet fixed, which caused some problems with mold on the walls. The walls here are pretty thin as I can always hear my neighbor up above me walking around, but what else do you expect in an apartment. The staff was always very helpful and cordial to me.
