This was the first apartment complex I moved to when I came to Kalamazoo for school. The reason I picked this place was that they allowed you to move in without a source of income (which I didn't have since I just left the Air Force for college), as long as you could pay the entire 12-month lease up front.

I instantly loved the nature-y wooded theme of the place. I've seen deer, racoons, wild turkeys and possums wondering around the complex occasionally.

I moved out for a year to be closer to the main campus, but then decided to move back to Greenspire because I liked it so much.

The parking was ok, occasionally i'd have to park further away from the apartment, but at least there were parking spaces available. I always felt safe there, and never had problems with my property or car. I usually kept to myself, but my neighbors seemed nice and were reasonably quiet.

I think the complex was built in the early 80's but the construction of the place is nice, with plenty of noise/thermal insulation between apartments. They give you alot of choices in floorplans. I especially loved the spaceous balcony.

Both times I lived on the second floor and kept my heat/AC set around 73F year round. The highest gas/electric bill I ever got was about $65. I think I only had one maintaince issue (a squirrel had got into the building between the 2nd and 3rd floor and was running around at night making noises) and it was cleared up within a few days.

As far as the staff... I think most of the people on this board are refering to Sandy, the main apt manager. She was a matter-of-fact kind of person and didn't smile, or exude a warm aura, but I never had problems with her, since most of the time I would drop my rent check off at night in the mail slot.

Over all I liked this place the best of all the apartments i've been to in Kalamazoo/Portage.
