not so bad

I live in the Amber Apartments on Madison Avenue in Royal Oak, and I haven't experienced the litiney of problems other reviewers have. My two-bedroom is spacious with a great kitchen and lots of storage. The appliances might not be brand new, but I haven't had a problem using any of them. The noise level hasn't bothered me at all, but we're on the top floor. Maybe the woman below is going batty. When we have had maitenance problems, we called and someone was over that day. Our heater broke and they bought and installed a new part within 12 hours. Our toilet got clogged and they sent a plumber over to fix it. When we got locked out late on a Saturday night, it took a few phone calls, but eventually a guy came and let us in.
Rent is not too high, although all you're getting is the apartment -- no fitness center, pool, etc.
It is drafty in the winter near our sliding glass door. We didn't use the AC in the summer.
And if you're looking for an apartment complex with a community-like atmosphere, this ain't it. I don't know the name of a single neighbor.
