Must Read Before Even Considering Moving In

I recently just moved from Brookdale Apartments and I couldn't have been unhappier with my experience there. I read some of the reviews before moving here and I thought, 'oh it can't be THAT bad' but really it is.
Living in an apartment you would expect to hear your neighbors some of the time but at Brookdale there is absolutely no sound insulation between apartments. If my neighbors were having a normal conversation I could hear it word for word. I am shocked that this apartment has recieved a 3 on sound quality, I have never lived in a nosier apartment complex.
I wouldn't say that Charlotte is necessarily the ----- but I would say that she is a little incompetant at her job. There was a fire in the apartment two stories above mine and quite a lot of water came down the walls and into my apartment. The day after the fire, maintenance came in, drilled holes in my ceiling and ripped up carpet. They were very prompt in response but there was absolutely no communition from management indicating the extent of damage or when everything would be fixed. In addition, they ripped out all insulation in the hallway and the wall of my apartment that went to the outside, leaving only a 1/2" piece of drywall between me and the weather (it was still snowing at this point) or anyone else who like to come into my apartment. Finally after six weeks of continually visiting Charlotte, who continually said that she had no idea when it would be fixed and could do nothing about it, I contacted a lawyer who outlined what points of the lease were being violated by not having the fire damage fixed. When I sent a letter to management on a Friday afternoon at 4PM, and with Charlotte still telling me that day that she had no idea when it would be fixed, the repairmen had the entire issue fixed by 11:00 AM on the next Monday. The fact that it took a letter threatening a lease violation makes me believe that the management does not really care about the residents but only about making money.
In addition, I didn't find the maintenance staff prompt in normal daily fixes. In one instance my bathtub faucet broke so that the water would not turn off, so I turned off the water valve to the tub while I waited for them to fix it. It took two days for them to come out and fix this, so I had to go without water in my shower for two days which is very unacceptable.
So if you like to hear your neighbors and you don't mind incompetent management, then I would say that Brookdale is definitely the right location for you. Otherwise, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

i lived right under the apartment that had the fire and i had the same results, i hated living at brookdale i could not wait to leave, brookdale only cares about making money they made that very clear, they also drilled holes in my walls, and i received the same answers when i asked when would the fire damage be fixed, brookdale made it seem as though i would just have to live with it, in fact i could not even move to a different building, i cannot say enough negative remarks about brookdale, i would never advise anyone to move there
