Nice High-Rise Living For The Money

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007

I am a young professional that has lived at North Park Towers for a year now and overall I am happy! I live in a corner two bedroom, two bathroom unit. The size of my apartment is roughly 1500 sqft with a very spacious living room, a separate dining room, one bedroom that I use for an office and a very spacious master bedroom with a connected bathroom. All rooms (with the exception of the bathrooms) have picture windows with great views of the city. I actually face out towards the West so I get a beautiful sunset each evening and a view of the western suburbs. I suggest a corner unit if possible as it cuts down on the possibility of having noisy neighbors on both sides of you.

Parking

You have the option of parking outside in the lot or to pay a $40 a month fee and park in the underground garage. I chose to pay the fee and park in the garage. At first I was against paying for the garage but once the winter months hit, I was glad that I did. The garage is heated in the winter and has a/c in the summer. It s well lit and safe. Nothing beats the feeling of pulling my car out of the parking garage clean and ready to go after a night of heavy snowfall. If you choose to park outside in the lot during the winter months, you will have to deal with the elements as there is no covering outside. The lot is patrolled by security and well lit at night.

Grounds

The outside grounds are kept pretty clean and well manicured during the summer months. The inside of the building is kept up pretty well. I do see maintenance both outside and inside picking up paper and keeping things tidy.

Residents

The majority of residents that I come across are friendly. There are a lot of professionals that live in the building (doctors, lawyers, financiers, and other white collar workers etc ) Many of the residents have lived in the building for many years which seems to be a good thing. I have noticed a few questionable types moving in as of late, I hope this does not mean that the standards of North Park Management are lowering!

Management

I have not had any problems with management. They have been very friendly and have made sure that any problems that may have occurred were taken care of promptly.

Safety

I feel fairly safe considering that we are located a bit close to the city. I have never seen any altercations on the property. I do see Southfield police patrol every once in awhile just to check things out. North Park security patrols the outside perimeter at night and also walks up and down the floor of each hall. I have also seen them patrolling the garage. My only concern is that I have seen younger residents moving in as of late but they seem to comply with the rules. I also do not like the fact that visitors are able to come up to residential apartments without having to stop at the front desk. And even if they do stop at the desk, the people at the desk NEVER call to alert you that someone is coming up. I think this is a big safety concern that should be addressed!

Amenities

There is a small laundry facility located in the basement of each building. It s not the greatest but I don t use it much anyway. There is a dry cleaner that opened up over the summer, a convenience store, a book store, a salon, and a few other small businesses located on the arcade level. There is a gated swimming pool open during the summer months and a fitness center at the top of the West tower. There is a meeting room located at the top of the East tower where one can hold functions but I was not too impressed with it other then the nice view. There is also a restaurant on the lobby level that serves mostly American entrees. The food is fair but nothing to write home to mom about. From what I understand, there was a restaurant in the same location of the current restaurant but it moved down to the Riverfront Towers before I moved in. I never got a chance to try it but the food was supposed to be pretty good. There is also a doorman at the front desk that will help with groceries, bags, etc

That is North Park Towers in a nutshell. I considered The Millender Center and the Riverfront Towers before deciding on North Park Towers. I ultimately chose North Park because I think I get the most bang for my buck when comparing the three. When I consider space, view, safety, access to freeways, and cost the choice was easy! I would suggest North Park Towers!
