There's a lot good to be said for living here and you can read a number of descriptions of that in other other reviews. Since the spring of this year management started delivering water bills that for most tenants was twice the amount they had been previously paying. Efforts to determine why this is happening or to get an accurate accounting of what individual tenants are using hae come to naught. All guesstimates are that the water bills were always estimates and that the bills have been doubled because the owners are having cash flow problems & have decided to deal with it by doubling everyone's water bills. It's the one income stream that has always been independent of the lease and is now independent of any accuracy as well. As more and more tenants are simply not paying these manufactured amounts, the management has taken to distributing overdue notices on rent payments. Obviously the next step for tenants would be to advise the Michigan attorney general's office about these shenanigans because it's illegal. Those tenants who would like to keep North Park Towers as their address (and the scuttlebut is that there are fewer all the time)would rather that management find a more reputable way to deal with cash flow problems.

As the General Manager of North Park Towers, I would like to clarify the billing procedure mentioned above. The basis of the bills is the amount we are charged for water, sewage and trash by the City Of Southfield and Veolia Waste Systems. The resident's individual bills are pro-rated based on the square footage of their apartment. The referenced bill included charges for two months which were specefied in the invoice and accompanied by a letter of explanation. The water bills are not a profit center for the building and recovering these costs from residents is a standard procedure in the apartment industry.
