Thanks God I'm out of there!!

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
The positive: apartments look nice, well lighted, spacious and with good appliances
The negative: The apartment walls are paper-thin and you can hear everything from other apartments. The Lakes doubles as a hotel, so there is a lot of turnover in tenants hence some people don't care to be good neighbors. People throw garbage on the streets and green areas, and no one picks it up for weeks. Poor security. People will not respect assigned carports.
The experiences: I had a neighbor playing loud music with an annoying bass all the time. Once I called the police, and since the neighbors did not open the door, the police told me they were unable to do anything and I had to complain to management. I did, and a couple of days later someone smashed my car all along one side (coincidence'). I rented two carports, but had to keep locking them with chains, otherwise people will park in your carport and leave their car there. Again, police cannot tow them and you'll have to wait for management to do something (> 1 week). Last but not least, I went on vacation for a long weekend and someone broke in my apartment and stole valuable stuff. Strange enough, the door was locked when I got back, so the thief had keys. The apartments have an alarm system, but all it does is produce a palmpilot-like beep that no one will hear. The police officer told me that that was not the only case he knew of in The Lakes of break-ins without forcing the locks.
In one word... stay away from The Lakes
