Don't be fooled

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
I lived in this apt for 6 months out of my 12 month lease. I was thinking of moving 3 months in. When I first moved - the "gated community" really was what sold me. However, the gate was not working the first 2 MONTHS I was there. I was informed before I moved in that there were a few things that needed to be fixed and a maintenance request had already been put in. 45 days and 3 phone calls later - still not fixed. The gate was broken more often than it was working. I had to get a phone line in the apartment just to be able to use the gate when I had guests, but they never put my name in the gate control box (again, after 3-4 phone calls) - so i wasted that money every month for 6 months, and when the gate was working, i had to DRIVE to the front of the complex to let my guests in. What a pain. I had the locks changed on my apartment door the moment i realized that the alarm is just a noise maker that doesn't make very much noise and doesn't notify anyone if it is set off. I never felt safe, in fact, I had trouble sleeping for most of my 6 months there.
The office staff for the most part are rude, and not always willing to help. It was 6 months of no sleep, bad water - oh yes, the water. There is something very wrong with the water at The Lakes ... it leaves red stains on all of your plumbing fixtures, turns your white clothes yellow in the wash, and has a horrible horrible taste. I had to spend $50 to get a water filter, just to drink the water in my own home. Note: the water filters are supposed to last 4 months...mine lasted 2. You do the math. On the outside, the complex looks beautiful, nice landscape...but the trash is a problem. There is one dumpster, so residents would put their trash bags on the hood of their car and drive it up to the front. Unfortunatley, the bag would fall off their car - so they would leave it there...on the ground, in the middle of the complex. People would drive over it and soon there is trash all over the road. It is not cleaned up for 2-3 days. I was lucky enough to have an apartment on the first floor near the parking lot - so parking was not a problem...but when it snowed, i had to shovel my own sidewalk.
Overall, the apartments look nice, and a very spacious, but not at all worth the money to deal with the management - which is total crap in my opinion
