Not Bad... Not Good, either

I lived in The Lakes right out of college w/ a roommate. We looked at several places and this seemed to have the best location and ammenities. Since I was so young I was pretty idealistic about what I would/ would not use. I used the work-out room all of once in the middle of the day. It was pretty lackluster. I used the pool maybe a half-dozen times but it looked nice. I did use the business center a couple of times to check-in for flights.

As for the actual apts. We had a 3rd floor. It was bright, sunny and airy. The fireplace was great as were the washer/dryer.

Security... Like everyone has said - the gate is USELESS!! If wasn't broken then people were lined up outside to get in. There is a code you can give to guests so you don't have to drive up to let them in or get a phone line. I would drive really slow through the gate to not allow people to follow me, that seemed to work. The enterance door didn't lock, so anyone could walk in. There was a balcony that ran across the front of all the apts giving the aforementioned anyone who could walk in access to all your front windows. The alarm system was also useless. It was plenty loud, but didn't connect to anything (like the police or office) so really it just gave you advanced warning that someone was coming to rape and pillage you. To make matters worse the french doors off the bedroom didn't latch properly (even w/ repeated calls to maintaince) so they would blow open - setting off the alarm, so we couldn't set it anyway. There were 3 apt in our little hallway and one was vancant at one point and unlocked. It became a hang out for teenagers. They were always coming and going and apparently did some damage since when they decided to rent it they threatened to use our security deposit to repair it since we didn't report the activity adn therefore must have been involved. My dad's a lawyer, so needless to say nothing came of it.

Okay, one last complaint... My mom sent me a Tiffany necklace for my b-day. Since I wasn't home the mailperson left the package in the office. I went to get it the next day (I had to leave work early since they are only open from 9 to 5, you know nice for people who have actual jobs) and the woman in the office had me sign the sheet saying I'd picked it up while she went to get it from... where ever they put packages. She came back and said that day's packages were in a different location and that she couldn't get it for me right now. Because I apparently have no common sense I agreed to come back the next day. When I came back (leaving work early again!) the woman said that it'd already been picked up (since I had signed the sheet yesterday). I explained what the woman the day b/f had said and she was like "That makes no sense." Eventually after a weeks worth of phone calls they said that they must have lost it. That was it - must have lost it!! I hate to accuse them of stealing since I have no real proof, but the package had Tiffany & Co. on the return address and it seems odd that randomly the day my package arrived they were put in some undisclosed far away location. After that I started having my packages delivered to my work address.

Overall, I would say that it wasn't bad, if you aren't living alone and have no valuable mail. The apts themselves are beautiful, but for me the other hassles were not worth the money.
