I've just moved into Silver Oaks and I'm ready to move out; in all fairness, the Townhomes are very spacious, but the complex is loud, and overrun with unsupervised small children and teenagers. The front is well maintained, but the back is full of trash, but that's not the managements fault, it's the fault of the sub-culture residents who just throw their trash all over the lot, or the small kids who leave half-eaten food on the ground.
You have people who sit in the lot drinking, My daughter even found used condoms next to her car. Southfield Police are often in the complex. I think management is trying to clean things up, but its pretty far gone. It will be hard to raise the standard at this point. We will finish our lease and move further North and West next time; hopefully around other professional people. This place is not cheap, and it's a shame that I don't feel comfortable living around other ------- Americans anymore. we have to pull it together or no one will want us living around them.

I agree with stcscomp to some extent. I just moved in as well, and already I feel uncomfortable in my surroundings. I expected this to be a step up from where I came from. By comparison of current surroundings and neighors it's not. For the amount of money we are paying Mangement should do a better job with keeping the appearance of the units up. I see loose rusted railings; a lot of the decks need to be treated; cement steps and bricks could to be maintained better. The doors leading to the outside of the apartment buildings need to be more secure. People just leave them (or prop them) open, and some of them don't even close properly - anyone off the streets could walk right in. The outer halls of the apartment unit's could be maintained better. The carpeting hasn't been cleaned in so long that there's an odor in the halls. Neighors in my dwelling are quite noisy with the slaming of the doors, etc. And yes, the thought that came to my mind was 'ghetto'. It's is sad to say that I don't feel comfortable living around other ------- American's either, if they're going to play right into the sterotypes. I would prefer to be around other professional ppl as well.
