Appealing, but overpriced

When you pay a premium price for your housing you expect a premium product. I'm afraid that the best I could give the Somerset Park Apartments is a slightly-better-than-average rating. Somerset is an attractive community with a variety of amenities. The value of the apartments, even when factoring in the amenities, is questionable. These aging apartments need a substantial amount of work (we've had 4 calls in 5 weeks). Maintenance is reasonable in responding to issues, but we've not have anything more substantial than a failed shower at this point. The appliances in our apartment are beyond their usable life though (the refrigerator is loud enough to wake us up at night, the dishwasher is little more than a dish-wetter, and the ceiling fan in the dining room of the apartment below us makes a loud ticking through the floors and walls of our apartment.) and sorely need to be replaced. The provided lighting (mostly track lights) is not adequate for evening use. The exception would be the fluorescent fixture in the kitchen. The provided laundry facilities are a single washer and dryer per 8 apartments. In our group of 8, its difficult to find a moment when they are not in use. As of 2005, natural gas is no longer provided in the cost of rent. After removing the provided natural gas, the rent prices remain the same. The rent which had been slightly overpriced when we moved in, has become very high. I'm looking at an 18% increase in the overall cost of living in the Somerset Park Apartments due to the change and the poor HVAC system installed. While moving is a headache, the management is not interested in maintaining residents, so I will be moving out when our lease in up. While I recommend that potential residents explore their options at Somerset Park Apartments, expect to be only a short term resident.
