You can do better for the price

I have a one bedroom apt and think I pay way too much in rent for what it is.
It is spacious, but there are a lot of little things falling apart due to the age of the apts.
For example, my pantry door is falling off, the oven door won't close all the way, and the thermometer is off by about 10 degrees.
I noticed all these problems (and more) a little bit into my lease and called the maintanence guy.
When he came, he didn't fix anything.
He just showed me how to work around the broken things.
(Example- He showed me how to lift the oven door and then hit it with my hip to make it stay closed.) For the amt of money I'm paying to live here, I would expect them to at least fix what is broken instead of expecting their residents to just make do.
In addition, the management staff is below par.
They seem to have no clue what is going on.
Also, it is FREEZING in my apt in the winter.
Very poorly insulated.
Several of my neighbors have plastic over their windows to keep the heat in.
On the plus side, they gave me new carpeting, new paint job, and new light fixtures when I moved in.
(But when I went to register my cat about a month later, Barb the manager told me she wished I had said I was going to get a pet because they wouldn't have given me new carpet then.) The grounds are very pretty, and I have a beautiful view of the sun setting every evening.
Be very cautious if you are going to move here! Make them let you see the actual unit you will be living in (they didn't let me see mine and if I had known all these things were wrong with it, i would NOT have signed the lease.).
