Great price, mediocre apartment

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
The good:
The price is good. There is a washer and a dryer in every apartment. The office staff was always courteous. The lake is nice, if you like lakes. The grounds are pretty. There is a pool. In a 2 bedroom unit, the larger bedroom is a nice size and it has a pretty big walk-in closet. It was bigger than most apartments I had looked at for this price range. Some units have open kitchens that look out into the living room. There is a bar at the sink. This is really nice and can be used as a nice breakfast nook and also is nice for parties. The people are really friendly. There are alot of kids in the complex. Many times I saw children outside playing together. The parking lots are also nice for kids to play with remote control cars. Many kids do this. There is a nice fireworks show for the fourth of july which is visible over the lake. If your apartment has a lake view (like mine) you can sit out on your balcony and watch. There was a band somewhere that night too, I could hear them. There is a rule against grilling on your balcony, but I did it for the entire year and no one ever complained. People are nice, yet keep to themselves at the same time. Nothing was ever stolen from me. My car or apartment was never broken in to.
The bad:
Our dryer broke 2-3 months after we moved in. Maintenence responded slowly. The new dryer that they sent us was broken. They told us we would have to wait for another week. I complained and they gave us a temp. dryer from an unoccupied apartment until the new one came. 9 mos into lease, washer broke. There are a few spiders inside the apartment every once in a while. It is not like there are a lot, but maybe I would see on every few months, especially in the warmer months. There is only one bathroom. There is no overhead lighting in the bedrooms or in the living room. If you get home well into the evening, you may have to park a little from your apartment. But it is not like you will have to park like far away or anything, just not up close like you sometimes might be accustomed to. Also, not all first floor apartments have patios. Some of the buildings have the some of the first floor units partially underground. The walls aren't insulated very well. My heating bill was more than expected for an apartment this size. Units with closed kitchens (like mine) made the kitchen seem dark and much smaller than it was. The balconies aren't covered, which means that in the winter, you will have to shovel snow if you intend to use it for any purpose (smoking).
The ugly:
The starways and common floors are ugly. They aren't dirty or anything, they are just ugly. You just have to decorate your apartment well to offset this. The grounds were often littered with dog crap. You have to watch where u step.
