Can't wait to get out now

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
GENERAL: It seemed like the perfect place for our first apartment, and for a short time, it was! Unfortunately, after being here for our second year, my boyfriend & I are feeling the sting of New Management. We were promised many things by Former Management that New Management agreed to uphold... at first. They "changed their minds." We'll see how it goes when our 2nd lease is up - and I'll let you know.
PETS: Pet-friendly! Maybe a little too friendly. I see dogs of ALL breeds. I have seen no restrictions. It's lovely seeing cats in the windowsills though :) A lot of dogs are NOT quiet though, and bark whenever you walk in or out of the building. And, there is a rule stating that animals MUST be leashed and owners MUST pick up after their dogs - or else are fined $25.. something that isn't upheld. My upstairs neighbor just opens the front door and let's his dog out by himself. It goes in front of my window. Then the owner yells for the dog - at 1am! Which brings me to...
NEIGHBORS: SHADY SHADY SHADY. I've lived in two buildings. In the first, the neighbors were alright. They minded their own business. One had a dog that barked everytime you entered the building. She claimed it was because a previous neighbor had always banged on the walls to rile the dog up. In the second building, is an older generation mostly. Quiet and rude. They like everything THEIR way and if you do something that they don't like, believe me, management will tack up a letter on your door requesting that you stop (but that's as far as it'll go). I have one neighbor though that I hate. --------American couple. They're the ones with "the dog" that goes in front of my window. They have people over constantly. They're loud and obnoxious at ALL HOURS OF THE DAY. They bounce basketballs outside my apartment at 3 in the morning while shouting at each other. They have NO respect for other tenants.
PARKING: Decent. You can rent a carport for $20 a month. Otherwise, there seems to be enough room for everyone... unless some dumbass doesn't know how to park and takes up 2 or three spaces. Again, the neighbors are pretty poor, so you have to keep an eye on your car. I was at the store and noticed that my reflecter had been broken, but I didn't know where it had happened until the following March when the snow melted and I found the little red pieces from my reflector tossed in the grass.
SECURITY: Bad. We've gotten in trouble before for propping open the door while we moved furniture or groceries, but the door doesn't LOCK anyways. Maintenence claims they fixed it, but it's still broken. You don't need a key to get in. Also, the complex runs alongside a neighborhood. There's been issues with random people coming into the parking lot to damage or break into cars.
LAUNDRY: 1 - 2 washers and dryers per building. $1.25/each. One washer in our building doesn't drain. Hasn't been fixed.
STORAGE: You are given a 3x3 or so storage cage in the laundry room. It's excellent for your useless junk, but I wouldn't keep anything of value in them. We've seen a monitor stolen, and we've had an amp stolen.
MAINTENANCE: Usually poor. It usually takes a week or so for them to come in. They usually take a look and "go get parts" which takes them a half hour, only to have them come back and realize that they got the wrong ones. Sometimes they don't come back. Unless you clearly specify otherwise, they won't tell you when they're coming in. Otherwise, they'll call you 5 minutes before they come. For small jobs, like water leaks, they're decent. They stop the leaks. For more prominent issues like mold and mildew, they'll spray bleach (something you could've done yourself) and tell you to shower with the window open.
RENT: Too much for too little. It keeps going up, even though the apartments' conditions are going down.
GROUNDS & AREA: Lovely. We're located in a decently quiet area. We're ten minutes from I-75 and I-696. There's a little park down the road. West Bloomfield has trails behind our buildings.
POOLS: Never used, but usually clean when I walk by. I think the neighbors from the houses sneak over to use them though. Plus, they're usually filled with kids, which is why I don't use them - we all know what little kids do in pools. But what else do you expect'
NOISE: Up and down, depending on which neighbors are home. I can't usually hear my next-door neighbor through the walls, except in the bathroom. I can hear our upstairs neighbor walk, and his morning alarm. I can hear people inside their apartments when I'm in the hall, ESPECIALLY the disrepectful neighbors.
ALL IN ALL: I would probably re-sign if maintenance and the office were more cooperative. I like the area. The apartments are a decent size. But they're in poor condition, and maintenence doesn't seem to care. Our appliances are old, our windows are single-pained, our carpet's old, etc. I wish it wasn't going downhill, or else I'd stay.
