I am moving after 6 years. Mainly due to work. There are somethings that new residents need to know before renting here....
If your not good with doing your own maintenance or can't: beware
Maintenance here is very poor. I always do my own minor maintenance, because it takes at least 3 weeks to get someone to repair something, and then its not always right, or done half ass. Its either that the maintenance staff is poorly trained, or they just don't care.
If you have an emergency, they address it within a day normally, but that doesn't mean it gets fixed then...You still have to wait.
Don't even try to deal with the on site managers. The main manager could care less about your problems and questions, and the assistant seems to spend all his time out of the office. (Getting away from the manager'')
The area manager isn't much better. He's been here for about two years. Started out by dating a old manager, don't know why but she isn't here anymore..Now he is seeing a leasing agent..Wonder how long she will last. And if you ever do need his assistance, well he pays good lip service, if he is working...The guy normally only works 10-3/3:30 ( I'm his neighbor and see him leave and get home everyday).
Employee turn over is a big problem here. In the six years I've been here, there have been 4 - 5 area managers, 5 - 6 site managers and assistants. The maintenance staff seems to change day to day, but I would have to say that they have had at least 20 different maintenance men since I moved in.
One good thing I can say. If you really do need something, you can call their main office. Its about the only way you can get something done in a timely manner.
OH, one last thing...Watch out for the crazy lady that drives and walks around the complex...Seems she is upset with life in general and if she stops you, she'll let you know all about it. Rumor has it that she has complained to the township about the site condition....
Maybe it is time to move..... If you do decide to move in....Good luck to you

I've lived there 3 years and it'a all true, true, true. Change in staff, late maintenance, poor repairs, local office could care less! Probably will move next year.

In reply to the comment about the crazy lady - she's not so crazy! I'm not her, but I know who she is. She has complained for good reason. She's been here a long time and repairs are not readily addressed. The budget is tight because there are so many vacancies. So the management postpones and neglects repairs. This leads to more vacancies. Its a snowball effect. A picture is worth a thousand words. Another option - call the lasing option at random times in one week and see how many times you get a live voice. Go to the leasing office and ask for their fax number. Although Etkin & Company, the main owner in Walled Lake has one, Silberbrooke leasing does not. Of course, if you visit Silverbrooke, drive around just look at the roofs. Of course, if you do move in, make sure you have plenty umbrellas. You may need them INSIDE when it rains. The roofs are just one example of owner neglect Although they are running rent specials to draw you in, think twice. Are they really specials whee you have high vacancies?
Although I've been here for years, I'll be moving on too when my lease is over unless things change overnight. It doubt they will In summary, the crazy lady isn't crazy. She is complaining for good reason. She probably will also move when her lease is up.

You cannot blame the site manager for any of these problems. These are Etkin problems. As far as the property not having a fax number(DUH)because Etkin does not have updated equipment in the office. Which would help alot in the office. There are no computers or fax machines. Everything is done by hand. Now how outdated is this. I am sure if alot of you complainers were actually in some of these employees shoes, you would understand the circumstances some of the employees are dealing with.
