Decent place, slap-ass crazy landlord

The building and apartments themselves are acceptable. Some furniture (in the furnished units) is new, some is ratty. Same with the appliances. The parking situation is terrible. Despite the fact that there are only about 15 cars in the lot, there is no visitor parking (on site or nearby) and people are towed regularly. They are a bit expensive for what you get, even though the location is decent if you attend EMU.

The landlord is the only reason we're leaving. This guy has NOTHING better to do than harass tennants about little (and sometimes non-existant) issues. 1 year of him is plenty. Now that the place right down the street (the other former Ave Maria apartment) is renting to the public (for $100 less per month for a smililar furnished 2 bedroom apt), I'd recommend you look there instead.

I worked for that apartment complex many years ago. I'm not sure if its still under the same management as before. The way I recall it (and this was a while back, mind you), the building's owners were very particular. They'd have the resident manager patrol the entire building inside and out every day (at least once) and night (once again). This to make sure that not a single hall lightbulb was out, and no debris in the hallway. When an owner would come by to visit, they'd come in quietly and inspect the place. Then they'd go to the resident manager, and if a bulb was out or a gum wrapper in the hall, the manager would hear about it (big time!) If a door to the building was propped open, the owner would give the managers total hell. All this came from their intense desire to differentiate themselves from the 'slum' apartment buildings nearby. We would give new potential residents 'a talking to', before they signed up: "If you want to party, you've come to the wrong building. This is a place for students who want quiet study, and a safe place to stay", etc. I admit that back then we were pretty picky about noise, and parties were strictly out of the question. But then again, nobody *ever* had to put up with the noise loud parties, or weirdos in the hallways harassing them. I guess that hard-ass approach was a nuisance and also a benefit at the same time. Ahhhhh ... memories.
