My partner and I have lived at Arbor Glen for a few years now, since it was Arbor Glen. When it was Arbor Glen we loved it. The office staff was good, the management we thought was responsive, things got done, there were no real complaints outside regular Apartment Living. Then York Properties took over and we became Arbor Knoll. Never have we seen such a 180! The office staff is friendly except for the manager who is VERY rude. The maintenance has gone down hill horribly!! For example, our bathtubs finish was cracking off and was basically unusable, and after about 6 months and a lot of phone calls, talks and letters to the office they finally came in and fixed it! That was really the worst of it for us, but that was more than enough. I don't have any papers in front of me, but I know that many of their "New Rules" were ridiculous and I'm wondering if they were even legal. The pool always seems to be dirty now and cold. (It was once heated). Another problem is the ice on the sidewalks. My partner has already slipped on fell because of ice at the end of our walk, and there are multiple places on the sidewalks that commonly flood and freeze up and nothing is ever done about it unless someone starts yelling at the office. The biggest problem to date was the lack of snow removal. As anyone in the area knows, we had a big snow storm on New Years Eve. By morning there was about a foot and a half on the ground, everything was covered. No one came out on New Years day to do any snow removal! There actually were residents shoveling off their own sidewalks! You had to either shovel yourself out, or trudge through a lot of snow. It was not until the next day that they plowed us out, and even then neglected all of the sidewalks! Anyone with a dog had nowhere to walk the poor things!!! The management here is horrible!!!! It once was a nice place to be, but not anymore.
Last but not least, we are currently paying 915.00 a month for a 2 bedroom - 2 Bath. I know there are MUCH better deals out there for the money, I think we are going to start really looking as our lease ending is comming up.
Does anyone know of a Renters Rights Association or anything like that for the area or Michigan''

Alright, Ill give you due credit when you say the office sucks, Karrie either doesnt have the knowledge of what respect is, or she enjoys making people angry. Ive lived here for about two years now and Im really fed up with her. Before she came around, at least people WANTED to go into the office to voice their complaints, now most of us just call so we dont have to deal with HER.
As for the snow removal, ive lived in apartments for most of my life, and you have to understand that these places only employ 2 maybe 3 maintenance people. Only ONE is ever on 'call' for emergencies over holidays. There was a foot and a half of snow, ONE person to shovel/plow etc. GET A GRIP. I was out there shoveling my own snow as well, and thats just part of life in MICHIGAN. You people really need to chill out. The Maintenance guys are great and they do the best they can but Hello people, theres only TWO of them. Or havent you noticed? As for ice, I mean come on, if you see it DONT STEP ON IT. Duh.

most of the apartments in this area are poorly rated with everyone advising 'do not consider to rent here' so where are the good places for those who can not own a home?

The more and more I have read reviews and looked into places, the more I am convinced that it's seriously up to the individual to decide what they can and cannot live with. Every place I have ever looked into had people that loved it and others that hated it. When it comes down to it, it's renting and it will never be perfect. As far as Arbor Glen is concerned it has it's good points and it's bad ones. I like the area we are in, the grounds have character to them, and the apartments are not terrible. But on the other side, the management is not super good. If you have a problem, you will probably get ignored a bit, but unless you complain about everything under the sun it's not a huge deal. The lawn crew isn't anything special, and there are some idiots that don't know how to pick up after their dogs. Neighbors can be noisy, but this is also something that generally comes with apartments. If Arbor Knoll was completely terrible we wouldn't have stayed for more than a year, but maybe it's just because we have lived in some terrible places that the little things don't bother us, I dunno. My advice would be to drive the grounds at different times, check it out. Look at the cars in the lot, look at the people, look at the grounds. Take it all in and see how you feel about it. No it's not a terrible place to live, but it certainly isn't the best either... But again, everyone has their own opinions and their own experiences to compare these things to..
