New management worse than the old!

I have been here for over a year now, and within that year I have experienced the change to new management as well as the "improvements" here at International Place. First off, there have been no improvements to the place other than flowers outside and a new leasing office. My apartment did recieve a new lock, due to the fact a former employee had copies of keys and was suspected of breaking into apartments. These door locks are a joke. Cheap dead bolts and the door knob itself does not have a lock on it! The apartments are archiac. On my move in day the water was off, the apartment had not been cleaned and we didn't have any keys. They had given us keys to someone elses apartment and couldn't figure out where ours were. My neighbors moved in the exact same day, and when they showed up to move their belongings in the carpet guys were replacing the carpet since management failed to schedule the replacement before the move in date! They rented the exact same apartment, directly across the hall from me and were paying $100 more a month! They have a habbit of changing policies as well. I have had horrible experiences simply trying to pay these people! When I paid early I received an eviction notice, and all they could say is that the main office sends those out, not their fault. If the first is on a holiday or Sunday and they are closed, you can't pay on the next business day as they will charge you a late fee. But then again if you pay early you may recieve an eviction notice! One month it is ok to pay on the second if you are out of town on business or vacation (office management told me this was acceptable), the next it is not. One month you can pay with a personal check and the next they won't accept it. Don't even think about using cash, that is no good here. Your only option is to go buy a money order. I asked about direct payment online, all they said was sure, but they couldn't tell me who to set the payment up with. I never thought it would be so difficult to give money away! Also, these "professionals" in the office have no clue what they are doing. I am surprised they are certified as leasing agents! Make sure to know the law as they will break it as many times as possible. Don't expect them to operate on their posted business hours as well. Their schedule goes according to when they want to work. I have had the door closed in my face while trying to pay rent early in the business day before leaving for work. The "fitness center" is a joke! It took them months to replace the treadmil and the weight machine has been broken and welded back together on numerous occasions. Don't ever forget your gate card or they will interview you on where you left it and why you don't have it. Gate people are somewhat friendly but operate with little respect for residents. As mentioned multiple times previously, the gates are usually broken anyway. Here is the best part of my International Place experience. For two weeks my nieghbor below me laid DEAD in his apartment. Bless this persons soul for what ever he died from, but the smell was awefull. Management never said a word to anyone in the building. Police and crime scene techs were there for two or three days and the clean up took months. They tried using an oxygen purification system in that apartment but when ever the door is open you can still smell it. I do not feel safe here. Single females should not move in here as they will have issues with harassment. I felt the need to purchase a hand gun for protection in my apartment. I have these problems and I live right next to the leasing office, the one with the newly renovated space! I have heard that the rear of the complex is a living hell. They are spending money to make the place visually appealing to those passing by and stopping in the office, instead of actually improving the living conditions. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The price is not worth it and there are better places that are just as economical. I honestly believe this complex was better run by the previous management. Beware of any properties owned by Mark Management. Oh, if you are looking at apartments here, DO NOT RENT in bulding 2890 on the lower floor as that is where the dead gentlemen was found after being deceased for two weeks. I won't speculate on the cause as I do not know for sure, make your own conclusions. Hopefully you make the right choice and avoid International Place. The leasing agents will tell you to ignore these posts as they did to me while looking at International Place. In all honesty, take them as advice as I have found them to be true.

I posted my own review of International, which you can read yourself. I completely agree with everyone he sees, although I'll take his word about the dead guy (I moved out before that incident). They broke the law on me by stubbornly enforcing an illegal contract clause, trying to make me pay an additional month because I didn't turn in a 30-day notice (it's illegal to charge for that in the state of Michigan, per my lawyer who sent them a letter of demand for the return of my security deposit, or face court actions). And yes, I really do have a lawyer! If you are stuck in International Place, look online for free legal advice and help! You can get help, cheap or even free! Research like crazy, and send me an e-mail if you need questions answered. arcticfox@arcticmail.com
