My partner and I have lived here since September of 2006. It's been a very enjoyable stay, for the most part. Sure, we've had our troubles like the heater malfunctions, there's a short in an electrical outlet, our phone lines dead-ended in the dining room closet (weird story). The maintenance people are very courteous and fix things to the best of their abilities and at least come to investigate calls within 24 hours.
I would not describe the place as spacious (in a 2BR I think we've only got 710 sq ft), but it's nice if you're just starting out. It certainly doesn't feel cramped. The parking is more than adequate, and they do a good job plowing the whole lot in the wintertime. There are wide swaths of lot that aren't particularly well-lit, but they're not scary & shady, either. All building entrances have large mercury lamps that shed lots of light on the lots.
Sound doesn't travel particularly well through the walls, which is amazing, but the floors are very squeaky (I think the place was constructed in the mid-1960s, so go figure) so I hear my upstairs neighbors walking around pretty constantly. I never hear voices, however.
The apartment complex backs a number of other complexes, a K-Mart and an athletic club. Because of this, there's a lot of foot traffic through the parking lots. My windows all look out on the receiving bays of the K-Mart, so it's not gorgeous, but it's a city apartment! What do you expect' McKinley has given the front entry a nice facelift, but I don't think they've done much for the rest of the property, since buying out the previous owners in December, 2006.
I've always felt safe here. I remember how creepy this place was probably eight years ago, but recent management has done a lot to improve the quality of life. We now have a gate that has a guard or requires a pass card during night-time hours. All buildings have recently been updated to have exterior locks. Ground-floor apartments have window-stops on all windows and locks on the sliding doors.
McKinley is excellent as far as fixing up the facades of their properties, but they're not so good at updating the parts people actually use. My windows are only slightly more efficient than, say, screens. The cabinets are particle-board with veneers and there are a lot of terrible patch jobs in the drywall. My apartment is special, I've noticed, in the irregularity of the floor-plan: most units have their closets located in sensible places (and I've seen a number of other units that should be the same as mine!), but mine does not. Much of the winter saw the internal temperature dip as low as 50F (until we got the repair guys in to fix the heater!) because the insulation isn't what it could be.
The office staff is courteous and prompt and most of them greet me by name and engage me in friendly conversation.
Truly, this has been an enjoyable stay here with Aspen Chase. I'd definitely recommend them. I've got neighbors who have been here for 14 years!

You can't be serious.I lived in public assisted housing and it was nicer and more secure than this place and the management is horrible.i can't wait for my lease to expire.
