I'm a social worker who has been in the inner city of Detroit in some very unsafe complexes. However, I never felt the vibe there that I did coming into Eastern Highlands. My client lived here for a year, and was charged $650 for a 2-bedroom that had roaches all over the place (kitchen, bathrooms, walls, settled into her furniture)as well as a balcony/sliding glass door that had been broken into at least 4 times while she lived there. She had to jimmy her sliding glass door shut, since it would not shut all the way. She had a 2-inch space at the top of her door. She also had a large piece of plywood blocking the door, plus a large entertainment center blocking it as well. The entryway looked as if it had never been cleaned, and the ironic thing is, I think the landlord's office was right next door. Above her was a dealer who continually had prostitutes, pitbulls, and other undesirable characters upstairs. You could hear them fighting, having sex, and the dogs fighting. The building next to her's had been burned out due to a fire some time ago, and she said that it has been this way for several years. The police are there at least every day...my car was cased by residents/vagrants when I drove in...it is too depressing to even look at when you drive by. These might qualify as low-income housing, but that is a joke. No one deserves this sloth. Find the better subsidized housing around the area before settling because you think that you can't find anywhere else.
