I stumbled across this site quite by accident yesterday and felt compelled to write a review. I am a grad student who lives in a Flo-Mar house acutally occupied by all grad students, I take that back, one working professional amoung us, but no undergrad students. I rented from Flo-Mar because my friend, also a grad student recommended them. She lives in the main building on Perrin and told me that all of her neighbors on her side of the building are either grad students or doctoral students. I rented from Flo-Mar for a few reasons:
1. I picked the house because I was told it was comprised of "mostly grad students" and that I should not have to deal with undergrad antics. (This has been true so far, no nights of missed sleep due to keggers, oh and I am going on my second year with Flo-Mar)
2. I wanted to be really close to campus because I sold my car, mostly to be green, but also because commuter passes are expensive and it is hard to find a spot on campus. I would rather walk.
3. Ypsilanti is a bit of a dumpy town, but all of the Flo-Mar houses and yards are very nice and they seem to always be working on them. Being that I am a grad student I did not want to dwell in a beer soaked house and Flo-Mar was able to offer that to me. Needing a co-signer did not kill the deal for me at all, in fact it made me feel a little more comfortable with my decision. My parents were more than happy to co-sign, even though I also did not need a co-signer, because they wanted me to live in a "nice apartment" and Flo-Mar offered the best picks.
My experience with Flo-Mar has been wonderful. The office staff are great. The maintenance staff are quick to repair or replace any broken item. I would recommend Flo-Mar to anyone, grad student or not. It is great place to live if you want a really nice apartment close to campus. Oh, by the way my apartment is beautiful--hard wood floors, giant living room, ceramic tiled kitchen and bath.....I could go on and on.
