Golfside Lake Apts. & Townhomes

Having been there for three years and generally happy (minus the drug dealer that was evicted below us the first year) I don't have many complaints but really, my main ones stem from the past 4 months when they have been doing construction all over the complex- sure, it's an attempt to make things pretty for the residents so they can jack up rent but it has been more of an inconvenience and they have had MORE than ample time to re-pave and make their improvments and they are STILL not done with construction. I am not a contractor or carpenter or paver but they started re-paving sections of the complex in APRIL and they are still NOT DONE, now going into August and I feel it shouldn't have taken 4 months. The "fitness room": was in shambles before and tenants have been givin temporary passes to the Chipawaw Club across the street- which is nice but we are only allowed to use certian areas to workout and it closes early every day, weekends included. Prior to this the office staff had been promising for months that they would be getting new equipment to replace the janky 50% broken stuff they were too cheap to fix (with a complex that large, it's GOING to get used and break) this was months before they told use we would be getting a new facility my room-mate and I always kind of laughed when they would walk people through for the "tour" talking about the 24 fitness center- which is cool but not when half of the stuff doens't work the AC and TV included. McKinley is a ginormous coorporation and decided to not only re-do the Golfside complex but also Glenco Hills at the same time (and who knows which other of their complexes). While their ambition is admirable, it has been more than annoying to have certian areas blocked off (including getting into my own building), large construction vehicles parked everywhere, dust and dirt getting into everything, sidewalks torn up and the complex office moved to a trailer for over four months now. The length of this project is ridiculous. In my opinion it should be one thing at a time but hey, how can I complain when they gave each apartment a little "goodie bag" with a bag of mini chips, a candy bar and a flyer reminding us of all of the "great things to come"- that should shut me up right' There are a lot of office staff members that I like and are personable and helpful, but there is also a quick turnover rate which makes me wonder about what it is like to work for McKinley. There is okay parking- except when 1/4 of the complex is torn up leaving cramped parking 1/2 mile away. The "new spa like pool" is great except it is only open until 8 and we were told it would be getting the "old hours" which was until 10 PM but it still hasn't. Maintinance is quick and efficient when ever I have needed something. My car was broken into last year around Christams and they didn't do anything- then I found out from my neighbor hers was as well right before mine but they never posted anything about 'be careful for car break ins' or about apartment buildings getting broken into- something I would like to be made aware of when it happens, not 4 months later when I hear it from someone else. It's generally quiet. The grounds are nice and I like the area. Don't expect the AC or heat to cool/heat the bedrooms but the front of the apartment stays comfortable. Again, I really don't have much to gripe about other than I don't feel like McKinley is too concerned with the inconvenience it's current residences during the construction just so they can suck more money out of prospective tenants. So yes, I would recommend Golfside but don't expect a lot after the initial woo but that goes for pretty much anywhere.

Pretty accurate.. I am also extremely annoyed with the construction.
I think it's a generally safe area. I usually leave my vehicle unlocked (with no valuables inside) and sometimes my roommate and I mix up keys and whatnot and have left the apartment unlocked for a couple days with no issue.
I wouldn't recommend it, but I was not terribly worried.

this area is well known for auto thefts around this time of year.
I had my car rumbled through in Dec 2006 & my friend had his broken into
just recently.
